Unix install question.
Is there anyway to merge the users accounts (passwd/shadow) on our UNIX
machine to create a default sampasswd file. We have close to 11,000 UNIX
accounts and would like to use samba's domain login features. We are just not
sure how to merge the current users into the samba's passwd list.
Or is there another way to do this???
Thanks,

Redundant Database, Pgsql ?
Yes, that looks nice, I am going to try that too.
Because every other option is based on some other software,
like relayd or nginx, it is all possible, but adds complexity.
The best would be to have it inside connection string.

problems with _LARGE_FILES on AIX 5.1 with 32-bit kernel
Dear rsync-developers,
on AIX5.1 with 32-bit kernel one can have large-file support.
rsync in principle supports it correctly since the flag
_LARGE_FILES is treated correctly in the /usr/include/*.h
But there is one point missing, the mkstemp is not opening
a large file. So syncing large files crash after 2GB.
To avoid this one could either put a
#ifdef _LARGE_FILES
#undef HAVE_SECURE_MKSTEMP

OpenSSH 3.1: ssh-rand-helper
Dear openssh-developers,
the new external program ssh-rand-helper appeared in
OpenSSH 3.1. While the SFTP_SERVER is defined using
a _PATH_SFTP_SERVER pointing to SFTP_SERVER in Makefile.in
and defining a default-path in pathnames.h the ssh-rand-helper
is simply SSH_RAND_HELPER and defined with a fixed path
in Makefile.in and not having a default in pathnames.h.
I propose a handling analogous to

Redundant Database, Pgsql ?
If I understand open source Postgres correctly, though, this setup basically requires that the application be read-only, or at least be intelligent enough not to attempt to write to a host if it has failed over to it, right? Don't you have to have human intervention to actually fail the master / primary over for write purposes?

pseudo incremental backup solution
...of rsync to create fullbackups with only
minor size differences (it uesd cp -al and pax before).
I would be happy for any critic about the software, the documentation
the configuration style (cconfig [1]) and the idea itself.

I don't even get what the advatages are of doing this with sql. If you use local replicated ldap and use local credential caching then your master ldap can go down without issues, even the local caching handle some local slapd issues.
I guess the local caching is also faster. Afaik were databases not designed for this purpose and a better fit is ldap.

oplock problem
Hello!
I need help (but who doesn's huh? :-) )
I meant to run one program - Money2000 (no, it is _not_ program from
Microsoft) together with samba on linux, but i have problems with oplocks.
This program is installed locally on win9x/NT and shares its databases. We
tried to place databases on novell, on NT server and on win95 acting as
server and everything worked fine. But when we tried
