getting winbind to work for authenticating 2 different domains - trusted
...tor"
I can see the users and groups for DOMAIN-A and DOMAIN-B (with wbinfo -u /
wbinfo -g), even with "getent passwd"
and "getent group".
If I initiate the following command, only the list of users for DOMAIN-A
is successfull, users for DOMAIN-B alway fail:
id DOMAIN-A+schlegels -> successful
id DOMAIN-B+schlegels -> No such user
Can you please help me with this issue?
I spend more than a week with reading documentation about that, but I
can't figure out the problem.

Charset
I have upgraded on my debian server from samba 2.2.3 (stable ) to samba
3.0rc4 (unstable).
The only problem that I have on my PDC is that italian character as ? (a') ?
(u') etc. are non treated as they should and this can cause profiles non to
load correctly.
What should I do?

Samba3: group mapping with samba PDC, LDAP account flags
Hello again,
this mainly affects documentation:
a) net groupmap is a fine thing. Though: is it optional or do I have to
map some groups for proper client operation ( W2k/XP pro) ? If so, which
Windows groups have to be mapped?
b) There are "Account flags" both visible in the LDAP directory as well
as in pdbedit's output. The examples always refer to UX, while smbpasswd
just sets

smbpasswd -a ldapsam problem
Hello,
I noticed the following issue:
when I add the default configuration for ldapsearches from the Howto
collection ?10.4.4.6, example 10.2
ldap filter = (&(uid=%u)(objectclass=sambaSamAccount))
to smb.conf I cannot run
smbpasswd -a [username]
anymore. It works fine without the ldap filter statement.
I noticed that the ldap queries are different with ldap filter activated

Samba3: machine account uid
Hello,
Setup: Samba 3rc3 PDC, ldapsam based, Openldap 2.1, RedHat 9
Question: Is it possible to assign the same UID to all machine accounts?
I am referring just to the number, of course there has to be one entry
for each machine with it's own unique username.
Questions Background: Personally I would prefer a "non unix account
solution" for Windows machine accounts. Nevertheless

Deleted smb.conf
I have RedHat 9.1 running. Installed Samba that comes along with the OS to
test it out. When I was playing with it, I deleted the smb.conf file
inadvertently.
I uninstalled and reinstalled the Samba utilities, but that didn't help.
How do I get back the default smb.conf file?
Thanks in advance.

client code page and valid chars
Problem:
I recently recognized that my samba server was misconfigured for some
years now. I never used the charset and "client code page" parameters in
my smb.conf to map windows encoded filenames with german umlauts to the
unix ones. For that reason I now have lots of filenames with windows
encoded german umlauts on my samba-share.
OK.
Now I want to change this fact (softly). When I

Samba 3.0.4 on RHEL3
There have been several issues fixes since the 3.0.2 release of Samba. One
of the most important issues is a problem with password changing after
applying the patch described in the Microsoft KB828741 article to Windows
clients.
I want to run Samba 3.0.4 on RHEL3. The version provided by RedHat is
samba-3.0.2-6.3E. I can't find any other RPMs or SRPMs for RHEL3. Any help

new package glm.predict
Dear R users,
I'm pleased to announce that my first package has been accepted in CRAN.
https://cran.r-project.org/web/packages/glm.predict/
With glm.predict it is possible to calculate discrete changes with
confidence intervals for glm(), glm_nb(), polr() and multinom() models.
It is possible to calculate many discrete changes with just one line of

New package: brant
Dear R users,
I am pleased to announce the release on CRAN of brant 0.1-1:
https://cran.r-project.org/package=brant. I implemented the brant test
(Brant, Rollin 1990) in R together with Prof. Marco Steenbergen at our
Institute.
The function brant() tests the parallel regression assumption for ordinal
logistic regressions.
Any comments, suggestions or queries are gratefully received.

Solving equations
Hello,
Does somebody knows if there exists a function which solves a set of
equation, say f(vars),
for the variables vars (similar to Solve in mathematica).
The functions I am considering are of the form f(t) ~ A*exp(B*t), where
A and B are matrices.
Thanks Thomas

Group policies and Vista
Hi,
coming back to my old topic: How to manage clients. Up to Windows XP one
could use the NT4-style policies, but Vista does not seem to obey them.
Are there any plans to get group policy functions on a samba-only
domain? Or are there other ways to manage the clients?
best regards, Gunther
