Damm Small Solaris
Hi,
for what it''s worth:
There''s now a new Live CD for Solaris called Damm Small Solaris:

In contrast to Belenix this Live CD works in Qemu - even without kqemu
load the performance is not so bad. One important missing are the
network driver for the network adapter emulated by Qemu. But they

ZFS and memcntl(..., MC_SYNC, ...)
It wouldn''t be proper to start my first post here without congratulations
and thanks to the ZFS team for such an impressive piece of work.
Anyway, on to my query. I''ve been trying out ZFS, with a particular focus in
reducing latency in a specific application. This application has a fair
amount of random writing going on in the background (which, of course, ZFS
will make

...current Bourne Shell. The Bourne Shell however is a nice idea for the
system shell in /bin/sh because it is faster than bash and as fast as ksh93 but
much smaller (if you use the UNIX linker, you can implement lazy linking that
causes it to be only 80 kB when interpreting scripts). See:

for the UNIX linker man page, -zlazyload

The CDDL does not annoy people, this is just a fa...

ZFS send/receive to Solaris/FBSD/OpenIndiana/Nexenta VM guest?
Hello,
I''m debating an OS change and also thinking about my options for data
migration to my next server, whether it is on new or the same hardware.
Migrating to a new machine I understand is a simple matter of ZFS
send/receive, but reformatting the existing drives to host my existing
data is an area I''d like to learn a little more about. In the past I''ve
asked about

FYI: Ben Rockwood: Solaris no longer free
...9;t the end of the world... but now all eyes turn to OpenSolaris''s fate. The end of the month is here and OpenSolaris 2010.03 is no where in site and those I''ve asked on the inside are unable to say.
This might be a good time to catch up on non-Sun/Oracle distros such as Nexenta, Schillix, and Belenix.
When combined with the support revamp and the impending Solaris 11 based on IPS, the message seems clear. Out with the old, in with the new. There may be attractive offerings for new customers in the high-end enterprise space, but long time supporters in smaller shops are going to ge...

ZFS and TRIM
My google-fu is coming up short on this one... I didn''t see that it had
been discussed in a while ...
What is the status of ZFS support for TRIM?
For the pool in general...
and...
Specifically for the slog and/or cache???
