File Auditing with rails - File I/O issue
Hey Folks,
I''ve written a script to generate a list of all files on a machine,
then zip the results. ?I''m going to stick a web front end on it, and use it to audit some file servers. The problem is that the ZIP compression/decompression isn''t working,
but its not what you might think. ?The script completes, but seems to
not actually write anything.
Here is a short

Efficiently convert this SQL statement to ActiveRecord loop
Hey Folks,
My app compares the last known set of files located on a series of
servers against a current snapshot for auditing purposes. Its working
really well, and I''ll open source it when its complete!
Here''s my current issue (and forgive me, I started life as a DBA and I
constantly want to revert to connection.execute.)
The tables to store my objects are

Samba and LDAP (eDirectory)
Hello all,
Can anyone help me with setting up SAMBA to do LDAP auth? Do you have
to extend the schema with samba attributes or can you just use the LDAP
as an authentication source only? Any information on this would be
greatly appreciated.
Thanks

SATA disk perf question
I figure this group will know better than any other I have contact
with, is 700-800 I/Ops reasonable for a 7200 RPM SATA drive (1 TB Sun
badged Seagate ST31000N in a J4400) ? I have a resilver running and am
seeing about 700-800 writes/sec. on the hot spare as it resilvers.
There is no other I/O activity on this box, as this is a remote
replication target for production data. I have a the

Faulted Pool Question
I just got a call from another of our admins, as I am the resident ZFS
expert, and they have opened a support case with Oracle, but I figured
I''d ask here as well, as this forum often provides better, faster
answers :-)
We have a server (M4000) with 6 FC attached SE-3511 disk arrays
(some behind a 6920 DSP engine). There are many LUNs, all about 500 GB
and mirrored via ZFS. The LUNs

Networker & Dedup @ ZFS
Hi,
We are considering using a ZFS based storage as a staging disk for Networker. We''re aiming at
providing enough storage to be able to keep 3 months worth of backups on disk, before it''s moved
to tape.
To provide storage for 3 months of backups, we want to utilize the dedup functionality in ZFS.
I''ve searched around for these topics and found no success stories,

ZFS in front of MD3000i
We''re setting up ZFS in front of an MD3000i (and attached MD1000
expansion trays).
The rule of thumb is to let ZFS manage all of the disks, so we wanted
to expose each MD3000i spindle via a JBOD mode of some sort.
Unfortunately, it doesn''t look like the MD3000i this (though this[1]
post seems to reference an Enhanced JBOD mode....), so we decided to
create a whole bunch of

Offline Folders
We have just recently started using Windows XP Offline Folders here,
and it is causing all sorts of festive problems. If a folder is set for
offline use on a client, whether that folder is on our samba server or
not, the samba server becomes unavailable or only very slightly
available at best.
Example:

destroy snapshot vs. destroy incomplete snapshot
Recently I had a system with an incomplete snapshot. The
destination system hung in the middle of a zfs recv. It ended up
taking about 75 GB of kernel memory to destroy that incomplete
snapshot. Yet destroying another copy of that same snapshot took less
than 6 GB of memory.
Does a destroy of a snapshot take a different path through the
code than destroying an incomplete snapshot (as part of

Restore destroyed snapshot ???
OK, I am a butt-head and accidentally destroyed my last snapshot of a
replicated ZFS dataset. The dataset is NOT mounted and other than a
resilver going on, there is no I/O going on to this dataset. Is there
any way to roll back and get my latest snapshot back?

How about 4KB disk sectors?
So, what is the story about 4KB disk sectors? Should such disks be avoided with ZFS? Or, no problem? Or, need to modify some config file before usage?

Re: Rails SQL Server adapter
Hey Ryan,
I asked this question awhile back, but any support planned for table
returning functions, or stored procedures?
I''m envisioning basically a mutable model class where you have 1 or more
instance variables defined (with default values) that are used in the
SQL queries as input parameters. When you instantiate the class you can
specifically define these parameters or use the

zfs destory snapshot takes an hours.
Hi,
I am facing issue with zfs destroy, this takes almost 3 Hours to delete the snapshot of size 150G.
Could you please help me to resolve this issue, why zfs destroy takes this much time.
While taking snapshot, it''s done within few seconds.
I have tried with removing with old snapshot but still problem is same.

zfs + NFS + FreeBSD with performance prob
Hi all,
I''m not sure if the problem is with FreeBSD or ZFS or both so I cross-post
(I known it''s bad).
Well I''ve server running FreeBSD 9.0 with (don''t count / on differents
disks) zfs pool with 36 disk.
The performance is very very good on the server.
I''ve one NFS client running FreeBSD 8.3 and the performance over NFS is
very good :

ZFS send/receive to Solaris/FBSD/OpenIndiana/Nexenta VM guest?
Hello,
I''m debating an OS change and also thinking about my options for data
migration to my next server, whether it is on new or the same hardware.
Migrating to a new machine I understand is a simple matter of ZFS
send/receive, but reformatting the existing drives to host my existing
data is an area I''d like to learn a little more about. In the past I''ve

Disk IDs and DD

Is there any reason (and anything to worry about) if disk target IDs don''t start at 0 (zero). For some reason mine are like this (3 controllers - 1 onboard and 2 PCIe);
