...tions are set as such: options SCHED_4BSD # 4BSD scheduler options _KPOSIX_PRIORITY_SCHEDULING # POSIX P1003_1B real-time extensions Let me know, what else I can do to help fix this bug -- I'm going to reboot the machine tonight... swap_pager: indefinite wait
Hello, I manage a www (apache), database (postgresql) and e-mail (qmail) with about 100 Internet domains. We recently purchased a DELL MD3000i server with data access through ISCSI protocol. I installed a new server with FreeBSD 7.0 compiled kernel with ISCSI (v. 2.1) and SCHED_ULE scheduler. The server's local disk configuration is: 512 MB / 1024 MB SWAP 254 MB / var 2048MB / var/ qmail 512 MB /tmp ~ 70 GB /usr The apache data (/usr/local/www), postgre (/usr/local/pgsql) and qmail (/usr/local/vpopmail) are instead on the partition on ISCSI. After installing all the nece...

Strange reboot since 9.1
Hello, Since FreeBSD 9.1 I have strange problems with the distribution. Some servers are rebooting without any kernel panic, instanly. First i thought it's a problem with my KVM system, but one of my FreeBSD under a Dell R210 have the same problem. The servers concerned are now: - Monitoring server - LDAP test server - Some other servers, randomly (not in production). First i thought it's

kvm_open: kvm_nlist: No such file or directory
A few weeks ago I did a source upgrade from 6.2 to 7-STABLE. I didn't "make delete-old" so a bunch of old libraries and such were left lying around causing problems when I rebuilt all my ports. I'd read about some recent improvements to DDB and SCHED_ULE in 7-STABLE, and it's a miserable snowy weekend in Seattle right now, so I decided I'd take this opportunity to update my system to the latest 7-STABLE and get rid of those old libraries properly this time. Now sysutils/wmmemmon and sysutils/wmcpuload stopped working. Both die with: kvm...

Panic : bad pte
Hello, There it is, all my computers on FreeBSD 9.1-RELEASE had panic. I can just say there is a problem in the 9.1-RELEASE because I had no panic before. What afraid me is that my production server also panic'ed a few days ago, fortunately it does not appears so often. This is a panic that happened on my desktop computer, with a graphic card. The crash usually appears when X starts. GNU

RELENG_7 jerky mouse and skipping sound
I just updated to RELENG_7 from 6.2 and I'm running into some really annoying issues with jerky mouse movement and skipping sound. This seems to be similar to: Re: SCHED_4BSD in RELENG_7 disturbs workflow This happens both with 4BSD and ULE. I seems to happen when I'm compiling ports and a new cc/bzip2/sh process fires off (I'm just watching top), I'll get the skip/freezeup.

5.1-R-p2 crashes on SMP with AMI RAID and Intel 1000/Pro
...slot on) made things clear, but using both NICs together (either additional fxp0 or the new em0) remains the systems completely unstable. In FreeBSD 5.1-RELEASE-p2 and especially in FreeBSD 5.1-CURRENT this 'gambling' seems to reach its climax. My kernel is built up with SCHED_4BSD because SCHED_ULE and ADAPTIVE_MUTEXES crashes immediately the same way as described (running a while, then coredumping or freeze at the stage after the amr0-RAID showed up in the kernel boot messages, see the dmesg output below). I'm not an hardware expert, but all this wierd stuff looks like to me to be a IRQ...

Areca Raid 6 ARC-1231 Raid 6 Slow LS Listing Performance on large directory
Hello, I have a RAID-6 Partition with the Areca ARC-1231 card on a S5000PAL Intel system with 6 disks as part of the raid volume. The system has been set up as Write-back cache and the raid card has a 2 GIG memory cache on it. It is installed on Freebsd 7.0 STABLE with SCHED_ULE enabled. I have a folder with a lot of small and big files in it that total 3009 files. In the user system we have 2200 users in the password file. 1) When I do a ls -lh on the raid 6 array with 6 disks in the array it takes aver 16 seconds before it starts to display anything on the screen. 2)...

GELI partition mount on boot fails after 7.0 -> 7.1-PRERELEASE upgrade
I was using a GELI partition for /usr/home on 7.0, so it attaches and mounts on boot. The problem is it stopped working after the system was upgraded to RELENG_7/7.1-PRERELEASE. Here's how it goes: I have the following /etc/fstab: /dev/ad0s1b none swap sw 0 0 /dev/ad0s1a / ufs rw 1 1 /dev/ad0s1d

packet loss on ixgbe using vlans and ipv6
Hi, I have a Dell T710 with 4 X 10G ethernet interfaces (2 X Dual port Intel 82599 cards). It is running FreeBSD RELENG_8 last updated on July 13. What I see is packet loss (0 - 40%) on IPv6 packets in vlans, when the machine is not the originator of the packets. Let me try to describe a little more. If a neigbouring machine ping6 it, there will be packet loss. If it act as a router for ipv6,

Reducing the need to compile a custom kernel
Hi, during some big discussions in the last monts on various lists, one of the problems was that some people would like to use freebsd-update but can't as they are using a custom kernel. With all the kernel modules we provide, the need for a custom kernel should be small, but on the other hand, we do not provide a small kernel-skeleton where you can load just the modules you need.

FreeBSD Quarterly Status Report, January-March 2013
...of other improvements, including a complete rewrite of an mdoc parser. Last, but definitely not least, is an extensive set of nginx rewrite rules that makes it a breeze to use BXR.SU as a deterministic URL compactor for referencing BSD source code. For example, the http://bxr.su/f/kern/sched_ule.c URL will automatically redirect to http://bxr.su/FreeBSD/sys/kern/sched_ule.c through nginx. Note that according to the release schedule of BXR.SU, there is no IPv4 glue until 2013-04-24; otherwise, the service is available via both IPv4 and IPv6. See the 2013-04-01 announcement on t...

Will 5.4 be an "Extended Life" release?
In the next month or two I've got to upgrade a number of servers that are currently on an EOL'd version of 4-STABLE. I foresee that I'll have very limited time to do full OS upgrades on these systems in the coming several years, so I want to make sure I bring them onto an extended-life branch. Right now 4.11 has the furthest projected EOL date (Jan 31 2007), and the projected EOL
