running imap command line
I am trying to debug some core dump problems. I should be able to run imap by itself right? How to fix? # ./imap imap(root): Fatal: setgroups() failed: Too many extra groups I am using latest nightly code.

BEWARE: This list is being harvested for leads
A spammer claiming to be '"Tim Saarela" <tim.saarela at dovecot.fi>' is sending out a pitch for "Enterprise Level Support" for Dovecot. The address of mine which he hit is only ever used for this mailing list, so it is clear that whatever the mechanism, this list is being harvested for commercial leads.

Setting retention policies
I access e-mail from different PCs, typically using Thunderbird e-mail client. Thunderbird has a a "retention policy" it can set on a folder by folder basis. Policies such as how long to keep messages for, or how many messages to keep. Is there a way to set those policies on the server itself? Thank you

Evolution: DATA command failed: Requested mail action aborted: exceeded storage allocation.
Hi Everyone, I have been recently getting these errors in Evolution 2.6.1. I think it is a client issue, as I don't see them using Thunderbird on the same machine (though I get a lot of "disconnected from servers" from Thunderbird. On Evolution 2.8.1 on another machine I haven't noticed these issues. DATA command failed: Requested mail action aborted: exceeded storage

keep users from deleting email
I looked on the dovecot website, but didn't find an answer. With dovecot 1.0, is there a way to keep users from deleting their email? So that when they click the delete button on their email client, nothing happens/dovecot refuses to delete email, etc?

Datehandling bug?
Hi, I am testing dovecot 1.0.3 alongside my existing courier installation and a number of my emails are heading to the top of the inbox even though they are rather old. Closer inspection shows that my mailclient (Thunderbird on Win32) is showing me some screwey dates for a number of messages. One example is an email which says: Date: 2007-08-21 11:42:43 But in TB I see the date shown as

BUG: Bad grep when building dovecot?
Is dovecot *really* that picky about grep, or did it just happen to pick up an autoconf that's being overly pedantic? I saw this message a couple of times when googling, but no particularly good solution presents itself. I'll probably give it a new GNU grep just to get it to shut up, but I'm a bit surprised. I tried to compile dovecot in an OpenSolaris 2008.5 system in a zone

problem with NFS from Microsoft Windows Services for Unix
Hi all, I'm using dovecot 1.0 RC24 compiled form source on a OpenBSD 4.0, I use IMAP service with maildir storage and my mail client is Outlook 2003. If the root of the user maildir stay on the BSD filesystem everything is right. deliver net_connect auth-master failed: Permission denied

lock file on embedded device
Hi. That's my first post. it's driving me crazy. I'm trying to get dovecot working with vpopmail on Openwrt, an embedded linux-like OS for some routers . So actually my aim looks like get dovecot working with little hardware resources (32 MB of Ram, 8 MB of disk mem.) I've cross compiled it well(it looks like). the login against vpopmail works. using mmap it cannot even select

Dovecot LDA and "undeliverable" emails
I googled around looking for this, apparantly my google-fu is failing this morning. I just switched over to using a Postfix/Dovecot virtual set-up with Dovecot as the delivery agent. One of my users mistyped his email address when he paid for something through Paypal and the reciept got forwarded to everyone. It didn't bounce or just go to Postmaster, it was delivered to every valid user on

What is your dovecot setup?
I'd be really grateful if someone running a dovecot IMAP (or IMAPS) server could tell me exactly how their email folders are arranged. What is the mail_location setting in /etc/dovecot.conf ? What are the directories (or some of them) containing mail messages? Does the client see an inbox folder? If so, what directory on the server contains these email messages?

Need a quick, safe method to empty /home/user/Maildir/{.Junk, .Trash}
I have some (Thunderbird client, dovecot-1.0.13, Maildir) users who get an appalling amount of spam-with-attachment, and it's causing backups to take an inordinate amount of time. I'll implement some quota and server-side spam management when I go to dovecot-1.1, but in the meantime: What is the safest way to empty all messages within, but not delete, the following folders from the

Procmail died with Signal 11
Hi to all out there, i know this is not the right mailinglist for this issue, but i?m hoping to get maybe here an answer to my problem. i have succesfully migrated 12.000 mailboxes on a debaian with washington imap to maildir on sles10 with dovecot. although i had some post-converting work to do, i can say that almost everything went fine. but there is one problem with my LDA. A message, when moved by multiple clients with same account and same filters, can be duplicated by filters on destination imap folder.
I'm still collecting user feedback after moving from uw-imap to dovecot development release 1.1.rc3. What said in the subject seems the obvious result of an improper configuration. Office emails are configured and accessed on multiple clients with the same automatic filters, and sometimes the filtered emails get duplicated on the destination folder. The fact is that this was perfectly
