SCCM and other MS tools compatibility with Samba 4.x.x (Functional level 2008R2)
Hello Folks, We're using Samba as AD servers along with Windows AD Servers (2008R2 FL). We also use SCCM (Current Branch) that is dependent on AD for lab deployments (Windows 10). Currently, SCCM (current branch) supports 2008R2 FL, but for how long??? Samba does not support 2012R2, 2016, 2019 FL. We'd like to remove the Windows Servers from our AD infrastructure, but would also like to continue...

Experiences migrating from SCCM to Puppet
Hello, I would like to know if there are any resources (success stories, comparisons, blogs...) regarding the use of puppet as a substitute to SCCM in Windows platforms. Would also love to hear success stories from Windows administrators using puppet. I''m somewhat skilled with puppet but not with SCCM, so I don''t even know if the scope of the products is really similar. Thanks in advance! Fran -- You received this m...

Chain-loading from WDS to PXELinux on a different tftp server
...shared earlier). It appears only the most latest Dell business systems have EFI 64 support, and the best you can expect from models 2-3 years old is Legacy PXE ROM and only EFI support for booting from USB/HDD - correct me if I'm wrong. Moving on from that we NEED to use WDS as we have chosen SCCM+WDS to do our MSFT deployments. Many people say SCCM / Windows PE is "flakey" (source whirlpool.net.au) but orders are orders. It does automate the deployment of masses of Microsoft workstations, provided you spend twice as long fiddling with the task sequences etc http://forums.whirlpool...

Samba-4.8.5 and SCCM-5.0 Problem Extending the Schema
G'day All, We are trying to set up SCCM-5.0. Our AD test is Samba-4.8.5. SCCM requires schema changes, and Samba is rejecting these. Anyone tackled this? Ideas on how to proceed? The output thrown by the SCCM exe (extadsch.exe) is: Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager v5.00 (Build 8634) Copyright (C) 2011 Microsoft Corp...

why I use chrome on CentOS
I use chrome on CentOS because I wrote a web socket web app and I can only get chrome to work properly with web sockets. I have a local web app created with erlang. It works like ms sccm to wake, freeze/thaw deepfreeze PCs and can update windows/mac/linux boxes when they need updates for some student computers labs and department/college class rooms. Thanks for your understanding for my need for chrome - I moved over from xubuntu several months ago and I?d like to stay on CentOS....

Updated status on UEFI compliant version of the pxechn-module
...suggestion or workaround. I understand. Just let me say that I appreciate all the work that has been done on syslinux and that it is a great tool. I was only wanting to hear what your plans were. As goes the PXE chainloading - I am trying to redirect from a PXELINUX menu to a WDS boot server with SCCM. So the option in my menu looks like this: ***SNIP*** label sccmserver menu label SCCM-server kernel /mods/pxechn.c32 append 1.2.3.4::boot\x86\wdsnbp.com ***SNIP*** The IP here is of course just changed for this example. I have also tried to add the "-W" parameter to pxechn, bu...

Group Policy Linux Machines
Hey all- So linux machines in my domain, served by a Samba4 PDC, show up in the Administrative Tools. I was testing GP to see if it would apply to linux machines -- a basic one, just trying to deny a user from logging in. It does nothing; though from samba-tool, I can verify this policy is linked to the machine. Is it just that GP is designed for Windows machines such that they will have no
