regex sulotion for seperating number and string
...e seperated with blank, some with comma, and some hasn't seperated. eg, "2324gz" "2567 HK" "3741,BF" I want to seperate the number and letters into two new variables. I know this should be quite basic question, but searched on regex syntax and that seems a bit scarey to me, any one can shot me a quick solution on this particular question? thanks, Sun

Joining Linux Domain Member to Samba DC, issues
...not a domain member). In fact, at the time I added A records for all the non-Domain-Member Linux hosts and other devices (like network printers). I'm hopig this is not a real error, but is basically saying the A record already exists and it can't "update" the DNS. If so, a less scarey message would be nice. Please advise. Issue #3: getent not working After joining this Domain Member I ran the getent test: # getent passwd HPRS\\mark Nothing came back. I do get results if I run it on the other Domain Member: # getent passwd HPRS\\mark HPRS\mark:*:11105:10513:Mark Foley:/ho...

If you do not want to set a fixed ip, then ensure t...

Full replay logs of OpenSSH sessions
Hi all, I am not 100% sure if this is a -dev or a -user topic, but I am leaning towards the former. Feel free to cuss at me and tell me to ask -user, instead. I used to run a patchset that allowed full logs of everything taking place via OpenSSH. This also allowed me to replay any session, live or after the fact. I am fully aware of the security implications of logging everything, especially

An idea: rsyncfs, an rsync-based real-time replicated filesystem
...hen my next angst: PeerFS is a closed source file system on Linux with no track-record. As best I can tell it is _not_ journalled and the system ships with mkfs.peerfs and fsck.peerfs tools. The Constant Replicator design appeals to me because it more closely mirrors my needs, and has fewer "scarey black boxes" in the design. However, the more I have thought about what is really going on here, the more I am convinced that my rsyncfs idea is doable. Let me diagram an rsyncfs scenario that I have in my head. Host A is the master, Host B the slave in this example: Host A...

Joining Windows 10 Domain Member to Samba AD/DC
Luis, I had mentioned that I first provisioned a Samba4 DC 10 years ago when migrating from Windows Small Business Server. At that time I did try, Zental and Debian before Slackware. Back then Debian did not work well. I had to install lots of additional packages and things like Microsoft Update and Remote Desktop just wouldn't work. I spent months trying various things. I started over with

...2 (perhaps that would solve it). Quite frankly, I've no idea why the packets are going to 192.168.100.10.... nothing in the .conf script (or anywhere else) even mentions that segment..... There seems to be no impact on the function or performance of Samba... It works so well it's a little scarey (I'm not used to anything in the "windows" world actually working... *grins*) I don't want to waste your time (you guys have better things to do than answer set up questions) but I can't find the answer anywhere else.... please reply to mailto:dan@eyers.net I'm sending...
