RH7.2&&smbd2.2.1a&&W98/2000&&Connection Problem
Hello all!
I've readed somes docs and I found nothing about the
following trouble : I can't connect to my sbmd server using
the following : '\\MYRH72SMBDSERVERNAME\'. I always got
a error message like : 'Share name could not be found, make
sure you typed it correctly....' , but if I utilize \\10.x.x.x\ all is
working fine (I don't want to access using the \\IP\ way... )

request_oplock_break - a clue - what does it mean ?
Hi all,
I increased the log level, and found something very interesting out.
I know now what causes a sbmd to go into infinite hibernation on
Solaris. I do not know why, it is probably something Solaris specific,
I thought that a "dont descend" would have resolved my problem, but
it has not. details at the end.
Scenerio:

smbd problem
I'm building a RedHat fileserver using an HP LH3 fileserver. I can't
get the sbmd running however. The trial machine we've been running for
4 months now has the same setup and works perfectly. nmbd runs ok, but
when I look at log.smb, it says
bind failed on port 139_0.0.0.0 address already in use.
But in inetd.conf there's only smbd on port 139. This is a fresh

determining domain master and forcing elections?
Every now and then one of my lusers sets up a machine which attempts
to be a local master and/or a domain master for our workgroup. This
sucks since we want our samba machine to *always* be the WINS master
server. (we have os level set to 255 for this machine) but appearantly
it still loses elections that come up from time to time.
The only way I know when this happens is when people come to me

[LDAP+SSL+Samba 3.0.2a] pb start tls
..../configure --with-ldapsam --prefix=/usr/local/samba --with-ssl
make
make install
NO error !
A testparm says : no error
but when I try to connect my user ldap (called testldap) on my windows I get
:
"the option STARTTLS is not supported " in the log
so I did : ldd /usr/local/samba/sbin/sbmd
and I see libldap, liblber, libpam, etc.. but NO libssl...:(
I reconfigure and reinstall samba like this
./configure --with-ldap --prefix=/usr/local/samba -enabled-shared
--with-tdbsam
make
make install
testparm says : unknown option "ldap port"
it's ok 'coz I have not compiled...

debian unstable 3.0.4-3 panics
Hi All,
I had been doing some testing with the Debian 3.0.4-x versions of samba.
On two sepearte systems, running different configs, I've found that smbd
panics unless the [printers] section is removed from smb.conf. Errors
generated as follows...

Problem with GID being set to UID for Samba 2.2.2
Hi,
Just downloaded the latest SAMBA, and (after a couple of "learning
experiences" :-) it is sorta working on my home network. A laptop with
win95, and a server with RedHat 7.1 (Intel).
But there's this one little problem, the GID for a recognised user is
being set to an unknown group. It looks like the GID is being set to be
equal to the UID, or it is being set to the

either the smb.conf file cannot be found by sbmd or
contains conflicting directives.
you have created the smb.conf file? try specifying the config
file on the command line?
to get swat running you need to create the /etc/xinet.d/swat
file as well. Mine is attached, you may want to un-comment the
line about force localhost.
hope this helps
