Calling a method on class creation
I have a model User that has property called status. Status is just a
string that can only be evaluated and not persisted. I.e. it doesn''t
have a field in the user table.
Anyways, I would like a method get_status to be called anytime I
create a new instance of User. For example:
user=User.new
Since I created a new instance of User, I should now have access to
the status property, e.g.:

R 1.3 on iMacs (PR#1015)
...arbonlib, is there anything
else needed to get it running on system 9.0 on iMacs?
If you don't know of any problem then I will try to install 9.04 on one
of these machines and see if that helps.
Thanks for any feedback.

Class Table Inheritance - ?
Is class table inheritance possible with MySQL and Rails? I saw John
Wilger''s cool yet complicated Postgres implementation. I have looked
for a solution, but I can not find one. Are there any plans for class
table inheritance for Rails in the future?

downgrading from 1.2.3 to 1.1.2
Hello,
I just did a rails -v and got Rails 1.2.3. I just realized that I
had installed the wrong version of ruby on my local environment.
How easy is it to downgrade to 1.1.2? Are there any big issues I
should consider before doing this?
thanks,
Clem Rock

Non model cascading selects
In my model I have a city_id. ON the form I am using a cascading select
to select the state, which then does a remote_submit to get the list of
cities (and hence the city_id) for the selected state. The problem that
I am having is that if I make a selection, hit SUBMIT and validation
fails, the original selected state/city is now reset (ie, the values
aren''t saved). Since they

Composite Primary Keys
Have been looking into using rails but am finding the "Composite
Primary Keys are Bad" thing a tad disturbing (to put it mildly). I
have been working with RDBMS systems for over fifteen years and this
is the first time I have herd the idea questioned. I have cone across
using surrogate keys which mirror the composite key for performance
reasons in VERY big databases but I have never

Upgrading from 2.2.3a to 2.2.7a concerns
All:
Before I actually go and take the plunge on performing this upgrade I would
like to find out if there are any caveats I should be aware of. I am using
RedHat 7.3 and have been using the pre-installed Samba since I began
upgrading our network to Samba about 4 months ago. I plan on using the
2.2.7a rpm from Samba.org and would like to know if any of you have done
this and whether or not

CTI in ActiveRecord
I search an plugin or gem, but don''t find nothing satisfactory. I
believe to be stranger a technology that nails the DRY, have that create
you vary equal tables, instead of using inheritance.
Exists an soluction for this? I want a solution similar to this:
create_table :people |t| do
t.column :name
t.column :address
end
create_table :customer |t| do
t.column :person_id
