Force SATA1 on AOC-SAT2-MV8
I have a supermicro AOC-SAT2-MV8 and am having some issues getting drives to work. From what I can tell, my cables are to long to use with SATA2. I got some drives to work by jumpering them down to sata1, but other drives I can''t jumper without opening the case and voiding the drive warranty. Does anyone know if there is a system setting to drop it back to SATA1? I use zfs on a raid2 if makes a difference. This is on release of OpenSolaris 74. This message posted from opensolaris.org

LSI software raid with centos 5.4
Hi, I have been trying to install CentOS 5.4 on a Intel SR1530SHS, Intel S3200SH mainboard.. It has a 3 x 1TB sata hotswap drives with LSI software raid onboard. I had configured the LSI to have Sata0 and Sata1 with raid 1 and the third drive as a hotspare drive. Format the harddisk and installation was a breeze. The server rebooted into a blank screen and the cursor just keep blinking. Please advise. Thanks wL

Intel RST RAID 1, partition tables and UUIDs
the main advantage I know of for bios fake-raid is that the bios can boot off either of the two mirrored boot devices. usually if the sata0 device has failed, the BIOS isn't smart enough to boot from sata1 the only other reason is if you're running MS Windows desktop which can't do mirroring on its own On Mon, Nov 16, 2020 at 10:23 AM Jonathan Billings <billings at negate.org> wrote: > On Sun, Nov 15, 2020 at 07:49:09PM -0500, H wrote: > > > > I have been having some p...

Can I trust ZFS?
Hey folks, I guess this is an odd question to be asking here, but I could do with some feedback from anybody who''s actually using ZFS in anger. I''m about to go live with ZFS in our company on a new fileserver, but I have some real concerns about whether I can really trust ZFS to keep my data alive if things go wrong. This is a big step for us, we''re a 100% windows

Re: Wine + WoW + Debian unstable amd64 :?
Your /media/sata1 partition is probably mounted noexec. If that is a Windows partition, you should install World of Warcraft to your Linux account by using Wine to run the installer. Changing the mount options for that partition will get you past this error, but you are likely to have other problems if you run prog...

Intel RST RAID 1, partition tables and UUIDs
I have been having some problems with hardware RAID 1 on the motherboard that I am running CentOS 7 on. After a BIOS upgrade of the system, I lost the RAID 1 setup and was no longer able to boot the system. Testdisk revealed that the partition tables had been damaged and because I had earlier saved information from fdisk, I was able to recreate the partitions. However, booting into the BIOS and

PCI passthrough working on Xen 3!
Thanks to the kind person(s) who worked on this. I am using PCI passthrough right now and it works. I hope support is added for VT domains too; That would be extremely useful. So far I have tried a NIC, USB, and PCI Video. The NIC works flawlessly. USB works as long as the devices are present at the time the domain is started. Hotplugging USB devices seems not to work. OpenSolaris ZFS NAS Setup
If it''s of interest, I''ve written up some articles on my experiences of building a ZFS NAS box which you can read here: http://breden.org.uk/2008/03/02/a-home-fileserver-using-zfs/ I used CIFS to share the filesystems, but it will be a simple matter to use NFS instead: issue the command ''zfs set sharenfs=on pool/filesystem'' instead of ''zfs set
