SSD ZIL/L2ARC partitioning
Hi,
I''ve ordered a new server with:
- 4x600GB Toshiba 10K SAS2 Disks
- 2x100GB OCZ DENEVA 2R SYNC eMLC SATA (no expander so I hope no SAS/
SATA problems). Specs: http://www.oczenterprise.com/ssd-products/deneva-2-r-sata-6g-2.5-emlc.html
I want to use the 2 OCZ SSDs as mirrored intent log devices, but as
the intent log needs quite a small amount of the disk...

OCZ Vertex3 SSD and LSI 9211-8i (mpt2sas)
I have a couple development servers running centos 6.3 64bit that have
LSI 9211-8i SAS2 controllers connected to a SAS2 backplane. these
work fine with SATA hard disks (populated with a bunch of 3TB SATA
drives)...
I'm trying to install a OCZ Vertex3 SSD on each of the two servers to do
some ssd caching tests... system sees the drive, so I do the following...

CentOS 8 Broken Installation
...it?s unlikely to be related to missing drivers for a RAID controller on a SuperMicro system.

I saw it uses Intel hdd controler so I thought it could be similar.
Here is solution for instaling CentOS 8 on Dell T610 with SAS controler
(copied from Mike Chan):
Intro:
** Keyword: CentOS 8 LSI SAS2
Trying CentOS 8 on an old machine (Dell T610) but the installer can't
find disks for installation.
It turns out that the RH removed the support for LSI SAS2 controllers in
the mpt3sas driver.
I've found some articles about this, and is trying to install with
elrepo-provided DUD (driver up...

CentOS 8 Installation Not Recognizing Local Disk
I have an older Dell PowerEdge server with one hard drive, with CentOS 7 currently installed. I wanted to do a clean install of CentOS 8, but it doesn't pick up the hard drive. When I click on the destination to pick the hard drive it only shows the USB drive that I'm installing from. I checked for a RAID configuration on the server, but there is only one disk, and no RAID is configured.

Disk failure chokes all the disks attached to the failing disk HBA
Dear All,
It may be this not the correct mailing list, but I''m having a ZFS issue
when a disk is failing.
The system is a supermicro motherboard X8DTH-6F in a 4U chassis
(SC847E1-R1400LPB) and an external SAS2 JBOD (SC847E16-RJBOD1).
It makes a system with a total of 4 backplanes (2x SAS + 2x SAS2) each
of them connected to a 4 different HBA (2x LSI 3081E-R (1068 chip) + 2x
LSI SAS9200-8e (2008 chip)).
This system is has a total of 81 disk (2x SAS (SEAGATE ST3146356SS) + 34

RAID card selection - JBOD mode / Linux RAID
...-)
I have a Sun RAID card which I am pretty sure is LSI OEM. It is a
3G/s SAS1 with 2 external connectors like the one on the right here :
http://www.cablesondemand.com/images/products/CS-SAS1MUKBCM.jpg
And I have 2 x Sun J4400 JBOD cabinets each with 24 disks.
If I buy a new card that is 6G/s SAS2 with the same connector, can I
connect my cabinets to it and have them work? Even if they only work
at 3G/s I don't care.
I've also hit an issue with the number of logical devices allowed, and
am wondering whether this might be a HW, FW or SW limitation if anyone
knows.
I want to run eve...

Very slow disk I/O
...#39;m going to guess thats a desktop grade SATA disk spinning at
most at 7200rpm (many are slower, 'green' disks are often 5400rpm).
what sort of workload are you running? our high disk IO servers,
doing things like transactional databases, have many 10000rpm or 15000
rpm drives on a SAS2 raid card with 1GB or 2GB of write-back-cache
(battery or flash backed).

then yeah, you'll need a plain SAS2 external HBA card. If your server
is older, with PCI-Express v1 or v2, then a LSI 9211-8e or similar would
be fine (IBM M1015 are a common cheap OE version of the same thing), as
long as you flash that to be in "IT" (Initiator-Target) mode as they
usually come in IR (Integrated Raid...

I know with the SAS2 chips (SAS2008, SAS2308, etc), FreeBSD strongly
recommends the firmware revision matches the driver revision, so if the
driver is P20, the firmware also should be P20. I don't have any SAS3
stuff.

CentOS 8 Installation Not Recognizing Local Disk
There was a recent thread about Redhat's removal of drivers from LSI
SAS2, it's probably the problem you are facing.
It can be worked around with the help of Elrepo repo.

lot's of timeouts
Hi,
since some time ago we do have a lot of "timeouts" connecting to our
imap/po3 server. This week I switched the whole system to a new dual
quadcore xeon, 24GB RAM, SAS2 RAID-10. (SUN Fire 4170)
But the mailclients (mostly thunderbird and apple mail) still reporte
the timeouts by accessing the mailboxes.
The server is doing smtp, imap/pop3, webmailsystem and
spam/antivirus-checking all together. (RH EL 5, sendmail, horde, mysql,
mailscanner, spamassassin)

OT: DELL PERC H200
Does anyone know if a PERC H200 is a real RAID controller? I'm about to
build a box to CentOS 6.5 (it was Windows...) with RAID 6 on Monday, and
this PE R610 has this.... I'm familiar with PERC 6 and 7s, but just dunno
'bout this one.
