Regarding Samba issue
I am experiencing a problem with all time stamps having the same date
and time stamp. I found this bug report
http://us1.samba.org/listproc/samba/June1998/0239.html
and see there is a fix. The question I have is has this issue been
resolved in later versions of Samba code. It would be easier to upgrade
than deal with a code change and re compilation.

"because you dance to disco and you don't like rock" [Win2000 vs Samba/Linux]
Hey,
so i finally got it working thanks to your list (found the right
place for EnablePlainTextPassword here, the existing 3-4 matches
in the default registry don't seem to do a thing).
It was all brilliant. I got connected to all my 4 samba servers.
I was happy... 'til the next boot (you know, during installation
of system, boots happen).
Now it connects to 3 sambas (1 on FreeBSD, 1 on

SMBFS stack overflow?
Sorry about the previous message...
Note that the maintainer listed in MAINTAINERS is no longer active, so
perhaps it should be updated?
I've found a problem with SMBFS and *really* long pathnames. It causes
the kernel to OOPS, and sometimes corrupts the kernel stack. I've even had
it corrupt the SLAB allocator so bad that no binary could be run :)

off the top of my head (I think it might be to fool WfW or
something) but it *might* help...

There may be some user-contributed scripts to help automate the
process (if you don't want to do the update encrypted thing) but
someone else will have to speak up on that one.

password problems on upgrade to 2.0.4
Hello,
I just upgraded to samba 2.0.4b from 1.9.18 on OSF/1 V 4.0
Everything used to work fine in 1.9, and everything works fine now, except
that one of our users can't connect to anything from Windows NT. I've also
tried to use smbclient from her Unix account, and get the error:
>smbclient \\\\clang\\public
>Added interface ip=128.104.25.251 bcast=128.104.25.255

Just a thought, Steve

SWAT issue
I have had a RH5.2 server running Samba up for a long time. I upgraded to
Mandrake 6.0. It broke Samba, so I reinstalled using the RPM on the CD.
Samba works just fine, but SWAT will not! If I try to start it manually
(/usr/sbin/swat) it just hangs.
In /etc/services I have a line like this:
swat 901/tcp
In /etc/inetd.conf I have:
swat stream tcp nowait.400 root

teraterm with ssh add-on. Is this in samba contrib also?
Thanks, Steve

Samba for VMS
I just installed Samba for VMS (1.9.17p4) on a DecServer 1000A running VMS

The University Network is primarily NT Server 4.0 SP5. My experience is
with Netware and NT, not with VMS, but I have the luck of supporting the
system.....
My main question is about Encrypted Passwords.....Does this release of Samba
support them, or do I have to modify the clients who want access to our

Shares are comming and going
Hia,
I have a problem using the %G parameter.
At the end if my smb.conf file I have something like:
include = \etc\smb.conf.%G
At this way I hoped that according the the group, I can
load a configuration file accoring the the users group.
Instead that a 'smb.conf.it' group is loaded, a
samba tries to load 'smb.conf.nogroup'
(guest account is uid=nobody gid=nogroup)
