Why (&(objectClass=sambaDomain)(sambaDomainName=SARDINE))?
I have a member server that is constantly querying the LDAP server with -
(&(objectClass=sambaDomain)(sambaDomainName=SARDINE))
- when security=domain and workgroup=backbone. The server DOES authenticate
domain users, and everything seems to work, but this draining resources.
This is RH9, Samba 3.0.3pre2 (although I'm pretty certain I saw this on 3.0.2)
and OpenLDAP openldap-2.1.25-1 (local replicant).

Win9x Cannot Find Server, WinY2k Can
I have a Samba 3.0.0 PDC (and WINS server) that has been running fine
for some time. I also have Samba fileserver running 3.0.0. The PDC is
"littleboy" and the fileserver is "sardine". This configuration has
been stable since the day after 3.0.0 came out, and we were running
3.0.0pre(s) on the PDC before 3.0.0 was released and that was stable as
well.
Now (or as of 10/16) we are having problems where Win9x boxes can sign
on but cannot resolve the name of "sardine&q...

IP Appears Rather Than Servername
...ars in printer UNCs rather than the IP address. For instance
printer \\barbel\grdps appears in the printer status box as "192.168.1.9
on grdps". It still works, but this is both odd and unsightly. DNS
forward and reverse is working. It does this on both our 3.0.6
servers. On adding \\sardine\pdfconv print queue, it addes
\\192.168.1.12\pdfconv in the printer list.

reported to be fixed. On the other hand, I may just be using panel.superpose
incorrectly. You can see that I've messed around with the groups variable to
try and get it working.

One file open or locked way too many times. How to fix?
A Windows 2000 Server is a member server of the domain. The domain
server is CentOS 4.5 with all updates and Samba 3.0.24 built using the
packaging/RHEL/makerpms.sh script. The W2k server is opening this file
on the samba server.
This problem started several versions of CentOS and Samba ago, and I did
the upgrades thinking it would fix it. It did not.
