Sanba 2.0.6/2.0.7 Sometimes Loses Connections
Hello, everyone: I am very new to this list, and perhaps this has been brought up previously, so I apologize in advance if this has been asked before. I am taking over administration for Samba here, and the following was brought to my attention this morning: It seems if there is some sort of interruption of connectivity between the samba server and a subnet, samba will sometimes not renew

Some of these machines are running SCO 5.0.7 which comes with a Samba version 2.2, the other machines running SCO 5.0.6 do not have Samba. NT 4 workstation joining Samba domain
Samba 3.0.21b with LDAP backend The transfer to the Sanba hosted domain appears to work, ie success message, but I can't log on to a domain account from that workstation, complains about missing machine account or incorrect password. Only NT4 workstations seem to be a problem, Win2k and XP are Ok. NT4 is maximally patched, updated and etc - no regist...

Help setting up Samba for the first time Novice user
...ing to setup Samba. The goal is to have my tow Linux PC's and my two Windows PC's connected together on a LAN. My setup is as follows: Router as LAN hub and Internet access, Windows 8.1 PC, Windows 7 PC, Ubuntu 12.04 LTS PC, Ubuntu 14.04 LTS PC. I have installed Sanba 3.6.3 on the 12.04 PC and 4.1.11 on the 14.04. Configured the smb.cof on both Linux PC's. Have made up the "Shares" and added the users. Shares are in the home directory on each PC. User is also the same on each PC. Run testparm on both, no problems reported. Some times I see the...

Add Machine Failed
I know I am getting tiresome to this list, but I can't see what I am doing wrong, which is obviously something. I am new to samba as far as setting it up as a PDC. I am not having trouble accessing sanba shares when I set my computer to be part of a workgroup, but when I try to configure samba server as a PDC, i get the following message: The account used is a computer account. Use your global or local user account to access this server. I have added the following line to smb.conf: add user...

authenticating against an NT domain in other software
...vnc/) which is basically an opensourced cross-platform replacement for pc anywhere type software. It's excellent. But it's authentication is lacking. It asks for a single password, and has no support for usernames (at least none that is useful to me). VNC is distributed under the GPL. Sanba has the ability to authenticate against a windows NT domain, and is also distributed under the GPL. Last night I downloaded the source to samba, and started looking around. I obviously have no idea what I'm doing. I believe I found the stuff I need, but have no clue what to do with it. I bel...

roaming profiles stored on BDCs? how?
I have a PDC named GOMER w/ IP of 10.8.3.37 and a BDC named BLDG2 w/ ip of 10.8.7.2. when someone on the 10.8.7.x network using the WINS server of 10.8.7.2 logs in and out, their roaming profile is stored on the PDC. is there any way to have the roaming profile stored on the BDC?, because I will have other 10.8.x.x networks and some of these remote sites will be using DSL and I don't
