cupsaddsmb -v, Warning: PPD file not found?!
Hello all,
I am running a Debian testing/unstable system with samba 2.2.3a-6 and
cupsys 1.1.15-4 as a member server in a samba domain. I have used CUPS to
add a networked HP8100N printer and it works fine locally, but I'm having
difficulty adding it to samba for Win98 domain clients to use.
I ran cupsaddsmb to add the printer and drivers to samba, but it cannot
find the PPD file... where is

help with Win2k and Samba
...s a "newbie problem"... I?ve installed Samba 2.0.7 on a Red Hat 7.1 machine, configured a small smb.conf file, updated the Windows registry with the "plain text passwords", and reviewed the DIAGNOSTICS.TXT about 10 times, every time, steps 1 - 7 work fine but step 8 (net view \\SambaServerName) fail.
Also, I?ve downloaded WebMin to try to fix the problem with the configurations with no change in the problem.
I?ve already tried to Enable Password Encryption, Disable it, and still i cannot view the shares in my Win 2k Box.
Here?s the smb.conf file i?m using:

Cross-domain share access via same user+password doesn't work anymore
...old os-es like Win9X the username cannot be
changed, it will just use USERNAME or WORKGROUP\USERNAME for the user.
With the old samba version this works well because if it accepts only
the username for authentication with the new one I just cannot make it
accept it so only:
smbclient -U "SAMBASERVERNAME\user%password" \\1.2.3.4\share
works and as I noted older Win9X clients cant do this type of
authentication.
The desired would be:
smbclient -U "user%password" \\1.2.3.4\share
First I found this option in the old samba (regardless it is set to No
by default it just works):

winbind and authentication with local accounts
Hi everyone,
I have a problem with my samba and winbind configuration:
before I switched the config (from local user authentication to AD authentication using winbind) my users were able to authenticate for example as ?peter?. Now, after switching, they are forced to use SAMBASERVERNAME\peter. If they use only ?peter? winbind tries to authenticate them against the AD which fails. Is there a way to ?teach? winbind to try to authenticate every user locally if they dont use DOMAIN\peter ?
Hope you understand my problem in spite of my bad English ?
My configuration:

problems accessing samba drives over a SLIP modem line
...ink). Everything works fine on our local
network.
When people come in through an Ascend router using SLIP or PPP however
things don't work quite so well.
The wierd thing is that if the connecting machine is a Unix box, and
there are other PC's on the network on the remote side, net view
\\sambaservername lists the shares available just fine.
However, when we try it directly from NT 4.0 SP3, we get "No network
name found".
So here's what I've checked:
- use dns for WINS resolution is checked
- tcp/ip is working fine (I can ping, telnet, ftp to the box across
the slip link fine)...

printers offline in 3.0.13 - is it because they are "local printer"s printing to "local port"s ?
...#39;s printers
as being offline if they are accessed in this way? I guess the question
to ask is, what status does a win2k3 shared printer show as on a win xp
pro workstation if one sets the workstation printer up as a "local
printer" with a "local port" of the name
"\\sambaservername\printerqueuename". I hope somebody can tell me that
such a setup would result in a printer showing the proper status?
Because then I am sure samba could be told the same trick, surely?
I am hoping one or two of you can shed some light on this.

And route print?
Do you have any servers on the WAN? (or is everyone connecting to the
servers THROUGH the WAN?)
Can you see the samba machines at all in network neghborhood?
What happens when you type in the UNC of a samba server manually? (i.e.
\\SAMBASERVERNAME)
I hope I can help you, and I'm trying, but I'm not a samba guru.

Vista error 67 The network name cannot be found
This is a repost. Original sent last Friday afternoon received no
response. Any ideas would be appreciated. Should I try Samba 4?
=-=-=-=-=
I have a server which will accept a file sharing connection from a
FreeBSD workstation using smbclient, but not from a Vista workstation.
The server also performs as a NAT gateway. Upstream network
configuration is by DHCP (dhclient), the downstream side is
