It was you who suggested to switch from anonymous server to a domain
member, way earlier, - more than a year ago when I first asked about
how to run an application from a samba share and be able to update
files.

changing ldap passwords?
Samba experts,
I am using Samba 3.0.8 on an AIX 5.1 system with ldap authentication. I
have ldap working so that users can authenticate in their samba account via
ldap. However, I am trying to figure out the best method for allowing
users to change their ldap samba account password.
What is the best method to allow end users to change their LM/NT
passwords for Samba via LDAP?

ldap passwd sync on 3.0.25a
I have an strange issue with ldap passwd sync = only
on FreeBSD 6.1 with Samba 3.0.25a + OpenLDAP 2.3.37
I have the OpenLDAP smbk5pwd overlay which successfuly
synchronizes LM and NT passwords:
$ ldappasswd -D 'cn=sambamgr,ou=managers,o=stars' -w sambapass -s
secret1 'uid=lacoste,ou=Users,ou=Accounts,o=stars'
Result: Success (0)
My OpenLDAP auditlog file confirms that smbk5pwd is working:
# modify 1187006837 o=stars cn=sambamgr,ou=Managers,o=stars
dn: uid=lacoste,ou=Users,ou=Accounts,o=stars

samba as a domain member: a way to ignore groups?
Hi!
We had stand-alone anonymous samba server serving a read-only share
as guest account. It worked well but had a few strange issues (like
lots of noise in logs about bad smb2 signature).
Its been suggested to switch to a domain member server. I didn't see
the point since we don't need different user IDs and security model,
but okay, - I joined a new server to a domain.
Now I see

smbpasswd (adding machines?) with pdb_mysql doesn't work
...Just inserting a machine account into the mysql database (username, nt
username, password) doesn't work, so I thought I'd try smbpasswd - I
get this error.
