smbpasswd produces INCORRECT sambaNTPasswd hash on ppc (yellowdog 4.0 on xserve G5)
I'm having trouble setting up samba as a PDC on an apple xserve, using
yellowdog linux 4.0. After a lot of thrashing, I believe the problem
may be smbpasswd generating the wrong NT hash. Running smbpasswd on a
redhat box (intel architecture) produces the follow LDAP entry:
dn: uid=testuser2,ou=Users,dc=allstate,dc=network
objectClass: top
objectClass: inetOrgPerson
objectClass: posixAccount

Convert ssha password to sambaNTpassword?
...e samba schema installed and the likelihood
of that happening is slim. I still want to provide clients with as
close to a single sign on solution as possible and I can get an ldif of
the accounts I need. However, the password field is SSHA and I will
still need to generate sambaLMpassword and sambaNTpasswd fields (along
with the rest, but that part is a wrapper script around smbldap-utils
away.) There is a remote possibility of getting these hashes generated
by an Identity Management Server, which would make the problem go away.
The IDM solution is remote, as the admin for it is already

Samba and Migration to an existing LDAP backend
...passwd that is already in their entry.
So far the only way I can see to get their existing directory entry
to work is to run pdbedit -a <userid> which prompts for the users
passwd and which then populates their directory entry with all the
samba attributes such as the sambasid and sambantpasswd which have
unique values.
My question is then: Is there another way to get their directory
entry populated with these values without having to re-enter their
passwd ( eg have the user retype their passwd) at the pdbedit prompt
? Also, it seems that down the road if a user changes their

v3 to AD migration: home folders, quotas, users..
...n from
windows logon screen), we map the home folders via "net use.." for not
domain users too.
c) We use openldap and both linux/unix and windows/samba authentication
against it (samba has ldap backend configured, linuxes use sssd). We use not
very handy mechanism of setting sambaNTpasswd and userPassword (crypted, set
from HPUX) via ldapmodify. This is not standard and acceptable solution for
future. How to do it in samba AD? We have 1000+ users, all with both samba
SIDs and unix user attribs and we need to migrate them from openldap to
samba AD.
Next questions, eh, challen...
