sambaHomePath usage
My name is Camelia Botez and I'm linux system admin.
I try to configure samba server usind ldap authentication and different sambaHomePath from login home directory.
For ex. A user user_test has his home (login) directory /home/user_test and I want , using samba map on windows to have /srv/user_test home directory for this user.
We included in ldap schema 2 attributes sambaHomeDrive (H: )
And sambaHomePath that for a test user is /sr...

sambaProfilePath and sambaHomePath when adding a BDC
...ing smbldap-tools. The domain is called PRINCIPAL and the
PDC netbios name is SMBSERV. In my LDAP tree, users have (among others)
attributes like these:
dn: uid=bachillerato01,ou=Users,dc=guaydil,dc=prv
cn: Usuario prueba para bachillerato
...
sambaProfilePath: \\SMBSERV\profiles\bachillerato01
sambaHomePath: \\SMBSERV\bachillerato01
Now I have a new network segment and I want to set up a BDC being also a slave
LDAP server. I want workstations in the new network segment to take profiles,
homes and everything directly from the BDC. So three questions:
1.- I need to change the sambaProfilePath and sa...

upgrade 3.0.1 -> 3.0.2, problem with homes-share
...problem:
When users log-in homes-share is not allways reachable, so automatic
homedrive-mapping and roaming profiles doesn't work. This doesn't happen
everytime, but quite often.
And after login users can map their homedrives manually.
Users have following attributes in LDAP directory:
sambaHomePath: \\server\homes
sambaProfilePath: \\server\homes\profile
When I change users attributes to
sambaHomePath: \\server\username
sambaProfilePath: \\server\username\profile
The problem disappears.
So it must be the homes-share problem. All the workstations have win2000sp4.

...ive. If I enable the path variable,
the user can access his home drive but ONLY his home drive. How do I
allow a user to read/write to his home dir and read everyone else's home
dir? Can this be done? The home drives are located on another server
(or two).
Here's the LDAP entry for sambaHomePath:
sambaHomePath = \\<Samba server>\tester
I've also tried:
sambaHomePath = \\<Samba server>\homes
sambaHomePath = \\<Samba server>\homes\tester
and get the same result.
Here's my smb.conf:

Re: Trusting and Trusted Domain Samba LDAP (mapping Home Directories)Problem
Hi Igor,
I am no samba expert. Reading your email produce 2 thots.
1. If I have not read wrongly, you DID NOT managed to reproduce my scenario cos when you joined Domain A , login as user of DomB , you got the expected result, the Domain B's sambahomepath and drive gets map to the user B. Mine result was this:
I joined Domain A, login as user of Dom B, I did NOT get Domain B's sambahomepath and drive for the specific user of Dom B.
I am mentioning this cos you said "I've tried to reproduce your problem and was surprised to see that I&...

Samba and LDAP - which attributes are mandatory which optional
Hallo,
I'm asking myself, which LDAP attributes are mandatory which optional
for user and workstation accounts.
After using the smbldap-populate command there where different
attributes set than for adding users with the smbldap-useradd command.

Samba 3.0.4 with LDAP - problem with member server profiles
Hi, I have Samba 3.0.4 running with openldap 2.2.15. I have a PDC and two
member servers. I want to load balance my users home directories and
roaming profiles over the two member servers. At the moment everything is
on the PDC and is running fine! I just set sambaHomePath and that
sambaProfilePath to \\pdc\home\username and \\pdc\profiles\username and
everything is fine.
I've created a test user and in the ldif file I have set sambaHomePath and
sambaProfilePath to be \\serverA\home\testuser and
\\serverA\profiles\testuser, where serverA isn't the PDC. Howe...

My smb.conf important lines:

writable = yes
In LDAP base has every user these lines:
sambaHomePath: \\alfa\homes

Most interesting point is, that users that belong to the "Domain Admins"
group have home share and it gets connected automatically. It works also in
terminal server.
Other users have the home share, but it isnt mapped to H: drive. If users
