Joining Domain on Solaris, Get_Pwnam_internals didn't find user

nsswitch points to files and ldap for group and passwd.
When I try to join a Win2k SP3 or WinXP SP2 to the Domain, it says it
"The username could not be found" - in smbd.log I see
"Get_Pwnam_internals didn't find user [sambaclient$]!"
However, getent and id do find the user right after this failed join:

# id -a sambaclient$

Windows 8 and Samba 4 - network path not found
Hi list
I have a problem and I hope anyone here can provide me a solution to my
problem.
I have a Samba4 Server installed on a hosted platform with bind9 flatfile
backend. The OS is Ubuntu 12.04 LTS. All tests on the server succeeded.
Name resolution works fine and also the sambaclient -L localhost -U% is
successful.
Whenever I try to join the domain with my Win8 machine I get the error
message: "Network path not found".
Does Win8 works with Samba4 in general ?
Where to look at when getting the error message ?
Thankx in advance.
My smb.conf file looks a...

Codepage 850 question
Hi,
I run samba very happily, but now I recognized problems with
restoring files from a tape.
If I use certain german characters, like ??? (hope you can read
them), it builds file this "Verkn\201pfung". I can use this files
from the sambaclient, but I can't access or delete this files out of
Linux.
I used client codepage = 850
Now I found out, that if I use the options
character set = iso8859-1
valid characters = 228 196 246 214 252 220 223 183 126
it would work for me.
Problem is I can't even see the files I have build befor...

Can't login from Windows PC to Samba using ADS?
...ot;
to the tee (of course it is for 3.0.2) and have every thing working
except for W2K pc cannot authenticate? Oh yeah, I also went the steps in
the troubleshooting guide but couldn't get the step "net use x:
\\mysamba\web" to add.
I can 'net view \\mysamba' just fine and sambaclient -L
mysamba.xxx.com/mydomainloginname ok using my ADS password.
I can see mysamba in the Network Neighborhood.
But I just can't get access to the share from my PC. Oh yea, and I am
using encrypted passwords = yes.
I assume I must have missed something somewhere but for the life of me I

samba authentication behaves differently between windows and samba clients
Hello,
I'm using samba 3.0.11 and SuSE Enterprise Server 8 (SLES8). All
authentication tests using sambaclient works as expected, I can
authenticate logon requests, but when I use windows 98 clients
authentification fails with some password lenghts :-?. I know
it sounds weird but I can reproduce it as many times as I want.
i.e:
password "aaa" -> smbclient - always works

smbclient sending output to stdout
I'm using smbclient 3.0.22-13.16-SUSE-SLES10. I'm using the
smbclientparser Perl module to use smbclient from within my Perl
scripts. Whenever I perform a GET on a file, smb outputs this line to
stdout:
Domain=[mydomain] OS=[Windows 5.0] Server=[Windows 2000 LAN Manager]
This results in hundreds of mail messages in my local mail queue. How
can I turn this off, so that smbclient

Installing 2.2.5 latest on Mandrake 8
Hi there
I am a novice Linux user and am just trying it out - I am very impressed but
also very frustrated. I have loaded Mandrake 8 on a box and have configured
Samba for Windows pc's use this as a backup data server. Works
wonderfully - but our campus administrators say that the current version of
Samba presents a security risk(2.0.7) and should be upgraded. Thought this
was simple but

Slow performance with QuickBooks
I have spent much of the day today researching performance tuning with
samba. I have tried everything that I can find out about how to make
performance faster. I checked disk performance with Bonnie, installed FTP
and tested a transfer that way, achieving 6-7 MB / second. about 30 seconds
for 150 MB file. I was finally able to achieve those speeds on a file
transfer to the server through

pam_smbpass.so passdb.tdb support
Hi,
Recently I have installed samba 3.4.8 on my device. Since then ftp
(vsftp, proftpd) which is taking users from samba database with
pam_smbpass.so is not working. After enabling detailed log I have
noticed it is looking for the passwords in smbpasswd
(/etc/samba/private) which is of zero size . I think all users passwd
are located in passwd.tdb.I could fix this by giving "passdb

Getting "The network path was not found" error message
I am trying to get a simple case of sharing files on a SUSE 9.2 Pro machine
for my local windows machines. No DNS, etc. Just want to be able to read and
write files on Linux box. Am getting "The network path was not found" error
message. Have pored through mailing lists as well as books. No luck.
Samba daemons are running. IP addresses are served to all machines from a DHCP
