Using strace, I've convinced myself that named can access all the necessary files. So it seems that the only alternative is that dns.keytab itself is the problem.

...y strange experience upon my migration to samba3 and an
Active Directory environment.
I've migrated over 12 linux boxes that were previously tied into an NT
domain without issue, there is one however that is behaving a bit bizarre.
When I try to mount a share on this box by its new hostname
\\sambabox.newdomain.com, I get a password prompt, which should not
appear.
If i use \\sambabox.olddomain.com, I instantly see the shares available to
me. Additionally I use the \\ip and again, there is no prompting for
login.
All that appears in the logs is a verify incoming ticket. Kinda confused

users can autheticate. Yay!
I can resolve workstation's names from the linux box with "ping
otherbox" and "net lookup otherbox". I can also resolve the samba box
from workstations using "net view sambabox" and "ping sambabox".
In the globals, I have log files = /var/log/samba/log.%m yet rather than
seeing "log.otherbox" generated when other boxes access the share, I
get "log.w.x.y.z". This is not what I would expect and not what I'd like

Mandrake 9.0: rpcclient problem exporting printers to samba for windows
I am new to CUPS, after working for 4 days to get printing from WinNT to
Mandrake 9.0, I give up. Here is the problem:
the /etc/samba/smb.conf is setup with [printers] and [print$]. I copy the
postscript drivers from adobe. I then tried to export a printer to samba with
the following command
cupsaddsmb -v -U dwoody canon
It did all of the commands successfully except for the last one. which

Broadcast probe blocked by firewall

initialize itself when the iptables firewall is not yet completely
initialized. During a little time the firewall is rejecting broadcast
requests. I find this in the log.nmbd:
Packet send failed to 192.168.1.255(137) ERRNO=Operation not permitted

Added server name entry SAMBABOX on subnet UNICAST_SUBNET
After that Samba is isolated from the LAN, I have to restart Samba to fix it.
Is there a way to force Samba to know that the interface is broadcast capable?
Is there a way to "reload" Samba to do the probe again?
I'm using samba 2.2.3a on Debian Woody.

Windows 2000 Scheduler Permission Problem
...ord interface
If I manually run the job I got this in the log file:
> check_ntlm_password: Checking password for unmapped user
> [DOMAIN]\[Administrator]@[SERVER] with the new password interface
I already tried to map the samba box using in the job:
> net use drive: \\sambabox\directory /user:domain\user password
but even with this there is no user mapping on the samba box. And again
if run interactivly its working fine, but as a scheduler task its not.
Any hints to solve that problem would be fine.. thanks in advance.

Can't access a linux server using a Win2K client
Hello all. I am new to Samba, so forgive me if this is a stupid
question, but I have been unable to figure this out.
I have a Red Hat 7.1 box (kernel 2.4.9) with the Samba 2.2.4-2 RPM

within my company's Windows domain can access it. Before diving into

Group Policy alternative (Looking for feedback on a project)
Hello all,
So I am working on a group policy-like system based around Ansible.
Essentially, I am going to use Ansible playbooks as a cross-platform
alternative to the Windows registry and Group Policy Objects (GPOs). In
Samba, the way the group policy is applied is that it reads the set
registry values and then tries to translate that into Linux language.
This is inefficient and limiting as
