SAMBA as as printserver ..
...nfortunately, this doesn't quite achieve all that needs to be
done. The highups basically want to be able to do the "driver
storage" that NT does right now (hangs on to the print drivers
for 95/98 and NT). Is this doable with SAMBA 2.0.x, or am I
going to have to venture in to the SAMBA_TNG branch of code?
Do I have any other options?
Thanks.

problems with w2k and samba PDC
I simply cannot join my domain controlled by a samba PDC (vers. 2.0 or the
newest version 2.0.7) with w2k professional. If I try to join the domain a
messagebox appears and claims that the particular domain doesn't exist
(allthough I know it does!).
If one examines the logfiles, it seems as if they don't understand
themselves at all.

Join NT domain w/o using Server Manager?
I've been through the Archives, read the FAQs and pertinent info in the docs
that came with the source I downloaded (3.16.2000) samba-latest.tar.gz, and
have been unable to find a solution to my problem.
I saw an article by Jeremy Allison stating "There are two methods of adding
an NT machine to a domain. You can add the machine using the NT
administrator tool called Server Manager for

Files and printer sharing at Win 9x and Win NT Workstation
Hi Guys,
I'm having some problems with my domain, I'm running Samba at a Debian
Box as PDC for a Win NT Workstation Lab, a Win95 Lab and some W98
boxes. I also run Samba in Solaris 2.6 , the both work just fine, but I
can't share printers, disks, or files, since I can't see the users list.
(this happens with the both: Solaris'Samba and the Debian's Samba).
If I try to

LDAP docs?
Hi all,
Can someone please point me to where I would find info on the experimental
LDAP support for Samba?
I've looked through everything I could find on the web and in the 2 more
recent books, but could only find passing mention that it's being worked on.
Is it still so experimental that no one's documented anything about it yet?
Thanks,

samba and net start
Hi,
I was wondering if samba provides a means to start a programme on an NT
server, specifically a service? This is equivalent to the 'net start'
command, but I wish to start a service from my Linux server.
Thanks

Samba Passwords
I have a RH 6.0 server setup with accounts for about 1500 users
(school), I use encrypted passwords. I would like users to be able to
change their samba ('Windows networking') passwords and at the same
time change their unix passwords (used for E-mail). I have the
following in my smb.conf file as per the given example:
unix password sync = Yes
passwd program = /usr/bin/passwd %u

The source code to rpcclient can be obtained by following the instructions

releasing alpha tng tarballs from the alpha/ directory of a samba mirror
site of ftp://samba.org/pub/samba/alpha. For the above functionality, you
will need a minimum of samba-tng-alpha-0.4.tar.gz.
Once you have obtained the source, you will need to do this:

OK, I suspect Gerald said something like use the SAMBA_TNG
version of winbindd which you can do, but this has since been
merged into head in the last week or so.
So to get winbind compiled from head you need to do:
1. get latest cvs version using instructions at cvs.html
2. run ./configure <your configure options here> from the source
directory. I...

...Just a little doubt, probably very easy for you. I wanted to know what are
the differences between all Samba versions available for cvs checkout. I
know the difference beetween head and tng, but I don't know the difference
between these tags:
- samba
- SAMBA_2_2
- APPLIANCE_HEAD
And these:
- SAMBA_TNG
- APPLIANCE_TNG
I would like to use the latest cvs samba and the latest winbind. Which tags
should I use?
Cheers
