samba-ad restart fails occasionally
Hi,
We are running sernet samba, and on one particular DC (debian 7.11,
samba 4.5.6), when logrotate is ready rotating, "sernet-samba-ad
restart" fails with:

2. The following information may have lurked under my nose, but I did not
find mention of it: There is a configuration file

Cannot authenticate the administrator account
Thanks, Rowland.
I'll give it some thought.
At this point, I may even go back to slackware or gentoo.
It is a bit much learning all the new system tools (systemd, systemctl,
firewalld, NetworkManager, etc.) while moving from a samba standalone
configuration to AD/DC, DNS, Kerberos, all for the first time.
I'm also considering calling Pantek.com - - - I've had some very good

3. Pure Windows 2012 R2 server
Both Linux and Windows are fresh systems, no antivirus on Windows, no

AD was provisioned by https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Samba_AD_DC_HOWTO

sernet-samba-ad package installed, SAMBA_START_MODE="ad" in

All test from manual was performed.
Symptoms: Windows was joined to domain, and after reboot login attempt was
performed via KVM. Login as AD admininstrator was successful. Then I try to
login via RDP with same credentials, Windows stuck on "Welcom...

migration from samba3 -> 4 architecture goal question
Hello list and all,
this is my case:
4month ago i joined new job with company:
400 employees, RHEL and CEntOS 6.5 servers in backbone (and some windows
servers as app servers), with one Samba3 PDC fileserver/domain server
with tdbsam backend for windows 7 workstations and NIS for Linux
workstation and servers authentication... you can imagine this situation
was a bit mess
My goal was to

...bian Wheezy sernet samba posting (via Google) and within it
read that users need to edit "/etc/default/sernet-samba" as follows:
# ---- SETUP SAMBA: service ad / smb / nmbd
# enabled ad in /etc/default/sernet-samba for the AD server.
vi /etc/default/sernet-samba
# change this to : SAMBA_START_MODE="ad"
# change : SAMBA_RESTART_ON_UPDATE="yes"
Then I restarted the server and 'service --status-all' shows
sernet-samba-ad service with a plus sign (+) which meant it was running.
Then all the usual samba, krb5 and host "tests" returned correct
results....
