ACLs on Samba share not preserved when copying with Windows Explorer
...anaged by getfacl/setfacl): http://linux.die.net/man/5/acl
- Windows/ZFS/NFSv4 ACLs (managed by nfs4_getfacl/nfs4_setfacl)
My understanding is that Samba handles mapping between Windows ACLs and
POSIX ACLs, is this not correct?

When configuring the ACLs on my share, I have used setfacl exclusively for
configuring permissions (as you suggested), however the situation I described
originally is the result.

CUPS Windows point'n'click driver installation
...cally on a Win7 computer, all neccessary
files are copied to %Windir%\System32\spool\drivers\x64\3\ (do this on a
host, that never has a driver installed. Otherwise there may be other
files from other drivers in there too).
* See

Start with step 4. You can copying the files from the Windows host
(location see above) to the print$ share, too, of course.

WINS server DMB and LMBs not communicating across subnet to update browse lists?
Referencing: http://www.linuxtopia.org/online_books/network_administration_guides/samba_reference_guide/17_NetworkBrowsing_34.html
I've got two subnets (192.168.2.1 and 192.168.1.1). All the machines on both subnets are running XP Home or Pro and are all part of the same workgroup (WORKGROUP).
I've added an OpenSUSE box on x.x.2.1 and have set it as the WINS server with a very simple smb.c...

How to make nodes in my local LAN see each other's names
Hello
Sorry for the (I guess) simple question, but:
I have 7 computers under one 8-port router (D-Link DIR-100, firmware
v1.13EU) in my network (actually in a sub-network) and they do not see
each other's host names.
The router has the 'DNS relay' option enabled, and all 7 computers use
the router as the DNS server, which in turn will forward DNS requests to
the ISP DNS server.
