Samba runs samba_dnsupgrade on a regular basis, using dns_update_list as
a template. Amongst the list of dns entries is this:
AAAA ${HOSTNAME}?????????????????????????????????????????? $IP

AD, multiple DC, some DC without DNS at all
Hi all,
How to configure Samba to remove DNS service from DC?
I thought there was an option for samba_dnsupgrade command to tell "remove
all DNS service from current DC" but I don't find it anymore.
This question is because we are about to deploy an AD with 20 or more DC
and there is no need they are all DNS servers. In fact having them all DNS
servers make design more complex and more risky. T...

[samba4] DNS updates
...s important to be underwstood I think because some others users can
created to do the same, to be able to find them could nice in a
securisation point of view.
- how to recreate the keytab of such user without samba_upgradedns: this
user can be deleted accidentaly, being able to recreate it without
samba_dnsupgrade seems less violent so less risky than switching
dns-backend...
- how frequent are DNS updates? Is it every X minutes ? After each Site
modification + at every samba start?
As you see I completely lost into Samba DNS and help would be welcomed.
Cheers,
mathias

AD DC without integrated DNS
...place and can be
found by the clients, what, exactly, would not work? Joining a machine to an
AD domain doesn't require adding DNS records to its zone; the FQDN of the
machine can be entirely different, AFAICT. Are there any DNS-related
operations that require talking some other protocol? (samba_dnsupgrade falling
back to samba-tool when DDNS doesn't work will of course not be an option.)

[L.P.H. van Belle]
First, No, that user can not delete the keytab file is you setup correctly.
The dns.keytab should have 640 (root:bind) rights.
Why should a user be able to access this file anyway.
You can export them,...

The Bin9 "not starting problem " wrong was..

Samba Migration and AD integration
...C. Is this an expected outcome post migration?
I think you have not understood how AD DNS works. It won't create a zone file, it will create entries in the replicated DB that you can see over LDAP. By default the internal DNS server is used, but a DLZ plugin for bind9 can also be used.
Run samba_dnsupgrade --backend=BIND9_DLZ and follow the instructions if you wish to used bind, rather than create a zone file.

Samba doesn't control dhcpd, but instructions for that are on the wiki.
