I get similar errors even after applying the patch from https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=4003 or trying SAMBA_3_0_RELEASE. (I was also getting "permission denied" errors using CIFS VFS to access a Samba 3.0.23a server, but those appear to be fixed in SAMBA_3_0_RELEASE.) Josh Kelley

Identically named users and groups
We have a Linux user and group with the same name (username prox, group name prox) and a Samba share with "force user = prox" set. Since upgrading from Samba 3.0.21b to Samba 3.0.23a, that share no longer works. smbclient gives the following error when connecting to the share: tree connect failed: NT_STATUS_NO_SUCH_USER The Samba server logs the following error: [2006/08/07 09:38:26,

bug in 3.0.21a?
hello when I try to connect to a share from my windows xp client, it does not work. In linux via smbclient, there's no problem. see below for the error log version = 3.0.21a security = server (the problem only seems to occur on servers that rely on another samba server for authentication). any ideas? werner [2006/01/27 09:30:32, 2] auth/auth.c:check_ntlm_password(307)

password strength
I have Samba PDC with an LDAP backend. I just realized that the users can reset their passwords to anything, a single character a space. Is there anyway to prevent this?

LDAP access problem
Hi, My Samba-3.0.0 is configured as PDC. I've joined a W2k wks on this domain and everything works perfectly. However, when I try to add ACL on a file or directory located on the server, the display of the 1700 users and 570 groups take a while (20-30 sec), the slapd process use about 90% of CPU. In the slapd.conf index objectClass pres,eq index uidNumber eq index gidNumber eq index cn

3.0.11pre2 and wbinfo --users-sids
Hello good people of Samba, I've been working with the latest Samba (3.0.11pre2) and have noticed that between 3.0.11pre1 and 3.0.11pre2, wbinfo --user-sids <SID> has stopped working. I have confirmed that going back to version 3.0.11pre1 (everything else being held steady) corrects the error I'm seeing. #wbinfo -n <username> <big long SID> #wbinfo --user-sids=<big

"force groups" and file deletion on 3.0.14a
We recently upgraded our file servers from RHEL 3 running Samba 3.0.11 to CentOS 4 running Samba 3.0.14a. Since then, we've been getting some "permission denied" errors while deleting files. Most of our shares have permissions set up similar to the following: [database] valid users = @faculty randomsecretary1 randomsecretary2 @admin force group = faculty Under Samba

Error Code -36
...AME: syserr = Socket is not connected The first two lines show up in the log when the SMB/CIFS Filesystem Authentication window first pops up, before I've even typed anything. The second two lines show up after I click OK in the authentication dialog. I used svn to get the source from the SAMBA_3_0_RELEASE branch, but couldn't find the string "session setup phase failed" in any of the files. I'm not really sure where to go next in troubleshooting. I'd certainly appreciate any tips.

Saving files with MS Word to samba3 server is very slow!
Hi! I'm currently hunting a strange problem and looking for help! I have a samba3 fileserver (currently samba-3.0.20b, but problem can be reproduced with samba-3.0.7, but _not_ with samba2 like 2.2.8a), and I see performance problems when writing files with MS word 2002 SP3 from a NT4.0 (SP6a) workstation. Saving even the smallest file takes more than 10 seconds! Copying files with Windows
