Samba 3.0.25, trusted domains and winbindd
I have a Samba PDC in a one way trust relationship with a Windows Server 2003 DC such that Samba is the Trusting Domain. With Samba 3.0.23d I always used to leave winbindd running during a restart of smbd/nmbd. With 3.0.25, I have found that the domain "breaks" if I do this. Denote the Samba domain by SAMBA and the (trusted) Windows domain WINDOWS. When the domain "breaks",

Why is winbind so slow?!
Hi, I installed samba on a large Active Directory. All is working, I use winbind in pam and everything is working. However sometime it just hang for a while (say 20 seconds) and then go without problems. Currently I increased "winbind cache time" to mitigate the problem. There are mainly two situation where this hang occur 1- login 2- ls -l 3- groups I tried to analyze the problem a

force group to Unix group in 3.0.25
Hi, I'm currently using v3.0.24 in production and all works well. I'm testing 3.0.25 to see if I'm going to have any problems with it if I have to upgrade. I have a problem with the "force group" setting if it is set to a local Unix group. This same setting works fine in 3.0.24 but I'm denied access to the same share in 3.0.25. If I comment off the "force

Vista and Samba
I was just setting a Windows Vista machine up on my network and have the following problems. If the user logs into the domain, then there are no network drives showing. It is as if the script is not executing. If I logon locally with an administrator and then run '\\server-name' to get a list of drives, I can see them but nothing shows up in any of them except for two of the shares

Unable to follow dfs referral - still a problem for smbclient & also freebsd smbfs
Hi, Does anyone know if there has been any more progress on the problem of browsing 'complex dfs roots' see http://lists.samba.org/archive/smb-clients/2006-February/000622.html Basically it occurs whenever you have a Microsoft Distributed File System Tree where the links are to subfolders of the destination share. Microsoft clients have no trouble browsing such trees. The Samba HOWTO

Possible problem w/ 'idmap restore' under 3.0.25rc3
Folks, Maybe it's me, or my systems, but I've found that idmap restore simply doesn't work under samba-3.0.25rc3. When I try to import the idmap.dump file I create from one of my older systems into a fresh 3.0.25rc3 installation, I get a huge stream of errors along the line of "could not set mapping of (UID|GID) to sid xxxxx". This happened whether I was using
