Samba / AD integration
I have a quick question on hooking Samba to a large AD domain. Following the excellent recipe at: http://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Samba_&_Active_Directory I see it states about half way down to join the machine to AD "Now to join your machine to the active directory. You will need the user-name and password to a Domain Administrator account to do this. The command you need to join the domain is net ads join -U sadwrn. T...

Joining Samba 3.24 to 2003 ADS
I'm hoping someone can give me a clue what I am doing wrong here, Running Debian Etch AMD64, I followed the samba wiki at: http://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Samba_ <http://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Samba_&_Active_Directory#Prerequisites> &_Active_Directory#Prerequisites. I get mostly good results, except when I try to run 'getent passwd' or 'getent group' only local users/groups are listed. I was able to join the domain: net...

Use of gidNumber attribute in user entry
...have resorted to rm /var/lib/samba/*.tdb; service winbind restart but that seems rather gross. Thanks, Brian. (*) There is a posting here: https://lists.samba.org/archive/samba/2010-October/159033.html which points to a Samba page which no longer exists: http://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Samba_&_Active_Directory But apparently that page used to say: "You must make sure that the primary group of the Unix users in the AD is also Unix enabled (with a GID) (A user whose primary group is not also a Unix group will not show up on Unix at all !) " It also points to a thread from...

samba AD integration
I was looking at: http://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Samba_&_Active_Directory - the Configuring Windows part says: "I am still working on that ... " - could someone point me to a documentation on the Windows 2003 end of things? I have done the Linux end and now need to do the Windows part (groups, users, permissions etc.) Thanks.

Simple AD authentication for Samba share
I have a CentOS box that I'm basically using for file sharing with Samba. Currently I'm mapping the drive from an XP box with a Samba username/password combination. Is there a simple way to use AD or Windows authentication to allow the users to map the drive without having to use a separate username/password? That is without having to install LDAP and kerberos or whatever is needed to

Samba4 Built-in LDAP and other programs
Hi, I've searched high and low and cannot come up with the answer to my question. Basically - I run Samba 3.5 as a PDC with openLDAP as my backend. I would love to try Samba 4.0 but I absolutely require the ability for freeRADIUS, my linux server and Cacti to authenticate against LDAP, of course this means I need to be able to add SHA512-Crypt and SSHA passwords into my LDAP db. Is this

I can use wbinfo to authenticate users. wbinfo -a auser%321 plaintext password authentication succeeded challenge/response password authentication succeeded I followed the instructions at https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Samba_&_Active_Directory which has the winbind separator as '+'. kinit succeeded but ads_sasl_spnego_krb5_bind failed
...able to point me in the right direction? I'm attempting to get a RHEL 5.5 client configured to use winbind auth against Windows 2003 R2 AD (in fact my end game is to get all NIS maps served from AD, but one step at a time). I've been following these steps: http://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Samba_&_Active_Directory But when I come to issue the 'net ads join' command: # net ads join -U administrator administrator's password: [2011/09/20 10:57:00, 0] libads/sasl.c:ads_sasl_spnego_bind(330) kinit succeeded but ads_sasl_spnego_krb5_bind failed: Invalid credentials Failed...

Samba authenticating against Windows Active Directory
Hello all, I have a question regarding the integration between Samba and the Active Directory (Windows 2008). Current setup: 1. We have been using a Samba server to offer shared folder to the user in my institution. 2. The users have any kind of operational system on their machines, and they don't log in any domain server 3. The users simply map their shares at the Samba server, using their

Samba, id, uid, Active Directory and CentOS 5
I have some CentOS 5 systems that are part of an Active Directory Windows 2003 domain (using natively configured files - not likewise open). getent passwd my_account reveals uid and gid are both 10000:10000. Thus, typing: % id reveals a uid of 10000. /etc/passwd does NOT have my local account created - credentials are strictly from the Active Directory domain. The username is of the format

wbinfo -a not working
Hello, I'm trying to connect my Debian 4 samba box to my Windows 2003Server Active Directory. I successfully joined the domain, with net ads join. Wireshark captures a lot of packets going over the wire, and I get the message "joined the domain successfully". In my AD, under 'computers', the samba box appeared. So that all works. Problems with group assignments
Dear All, We are trying to transfer a SaMBa installation from an old server to a newer more up-to-date one. The original server was sharing files to Windows XP systems in Active Directory (Windows Server 2003 R2 version), but as we move to Windows 7 and Active Directory (Windows Server 2008 R2 version) we need to upgrade the service. The old server was part of a NIS domain, with the

Hello, I have a problem in authentification vs ads. History: - Samba works as stand-alone server (non productive) - some experiments with connection to a ldap-Server running on another - machine. - Trying to join to Active Directory, since I have no success I deinstalled samba completely and reinstall it. Upgraded samba, mostly still works, but have one issue
Hello list, I recently upgraded an Ubuntu 8.04 LTS samba server to 10.04 LTS which took the installed version of samba from version 3.0.28a to version 3.4.7. The server is an AD member using idmap-rid. I have updated the idmap directives in the config and it mostly worked (winbind works, Windows users can get to their shares with their correct permissions, etc.). The only thing that got
