Latest samaba updates
When I let yum install the latest samba updates, it ate my smb users file and smb.conf. Once I restored those, it gave me several selinux avc denials, one of which I can't clear up. See http://bugs.centos.org/view.php?id=2965 for details. Anyone else having problems like this? Dave

Redhat 8.0 and Samaba 2.2.5
...I've checked to see that it is running, and it is, but getent passwd does not give me my domain users None of the wbinfo queries work. Is there anything I'm missing? I've seen posts about doing a make install with the winbind option...but do I need to do that when I've selected samaba during the initial red hat install? The only difference between my Samba 2.2.3 install and the 2.2.5 install that installed automatically with red hat 8.0 was that there was a seperate rpm for winbind. Any advice is appreciated, I've worked on this for a while now and have gone through countl...

Combining NFS and Samaba - file locking
I have a network where we have a main site with a PDC, and two remote sites with BDCs. The backend is LDAP which is slaved to the remote sites, Samba is 2.2.8a, the main server is part of the Suse Linux OpeneXchange Server, the other two servers are Suse Standard Server 8. What I wanted to do was to have users at the various sites map one drive from their 'local' server. Behind the

Authentication delays in Samaba 3.0.10
Hello, We have recently upgraded to samba 3.0.10 (RedHat 7.3) and are now having authentication delays with some of our shares. We are using unencrypted passwords so we can use the pam system-auth...we have the plaintext registry patch on all windows machines that are connecting. The problem is that if you manually connect or browse to a share from a windows box (2k or XP), the client sends your

Hi Samba team, Is there a command or a way to build samba-debuginfo rpm from the samba source. I have been through wiki.samba.org, but failed to find out. Explored the Makefile targets, even there I did not find the make target to build debuginfo package or RPM. Thanks in advance for your help. https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Writing_a_Samba_VFS_Module -> this page mentions to install

Can't get password policies (bad lockout attempt) to work on Samaba 3 + OpenLDAP
Hi, I have a Debian stable (woody aka 3.0) machine. I am moving my existing samba 2.x installation (that has users stored in smbpasswd) to samba 3.0.4 with LDAP as the backend. I am able to move the users to LDAP just fine. However, the password policy of bad lockout attempt does not seem to work. I installed the samba deb file from the samab.org site. I also have OpenLDAP slapd

Samaba 2.2.7 and windows printer driver woes
Greetings, all, I have a fresh install of Samba 2.2.7 on a Solaris 9 machine. Stand alone, not part of a domain. samba will not work for me... :/
...ap "\\(hostname)\test" using Explorer... nothing happens. I've also tried "net view \\(hostname)\test" under the dos prompt... but again I get nothing. When I run "testparm" everything seems to work out. I've followed the directions from both Sam's "Samaba Unleashed" and the O'Reily book... but to no avail. Can anyone please help me getting samba to work with my Win machines? This has become extremely frustrating. -Sameer __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? changing ip
...ip addresses, whenever I start WinXp and log on it takes about 3-4 mins to log on. Also when I try to browse using windows explorer I sometimes have to wait 3-4mins, then I get the same delay when logging off. If I use dos though and change to the samba drive it works straight away. I'm running Samaba 2.2.7a on RH8. Can anyone point me in the right direction. I've not modified anything else but the ipaddresses (Samba is now on 192.168.0.25, my client is 192.168.0.20) When I finally do manage to be able to browse the drive (share), it seems fine, until I come back maybe 20mins l8r, then I ge...

Samba Won't Start
Hello- We're running Samba 1.9.14 on UnixWare 2.1.1, well, it was running. Suddenly it won't start- not when the machine is booted, not when I try to do it manually in /etc/rc2.d, from /usr/local/samba/bin or from the samba source directory. I tried starting it with debugging but got no messages. Has anybody seen this problem before? Any ideas? It may be a system setup problem, but

Samba Log file format
...ine to send back to the samba team for debugging, but the admin should be kept in mind when writting log output. Management: It would be nice if samba gave up management of the logs to syslog and the like. syslog could then control WHEN logs should roll over, where they are stored, and so forth. Samaba should not be controlling this at all. It would also be nice to have the flexability to have samba produce a single log for all machines connecting to the samba server instead of or as well as separate log.netbiosname files. any comments? -- Carl B.
