how to assess the significance of regression between a set of response and predictor variables
...(mlm.object)) presents the significances of each predictor variable as an anova table, but I want to see the overall significance of the regression of the two sets of variables (Y and X). Could anyone kindly teach me how I can accomplish that? Manabu -- -------------------------------------- M. ...nce, should I move or copy the convert executable file to an appropriate directory (which I don't really know where exactly, i.e. I can't find a folder "usr" in the Macintosh HD), or can I add "/opt/local/bin" to the R's search path? best regards, Manabu -- Manabu Sakamoto, PhD School of Earth Sciences University of Bristol manabu.sakamoto at gmail.com

Problems setting language in R-2.13.0 and opening RData
...open RData in the R GUI. However, this R window is in Japanese. So my question is: is there a way to set R itself in English (including this R for Windows GUI front-end) and not just the pathways from short cuts? Any suggestions would be most appreciated. many thanks in advance. Manabu -- Manabu Sakamoto, PhD School of Earth Sciences University of Bristol manabu.sakamoto at googlemail.com

R-squared values for multiple linear regression with a matrix of multiple response variables
...on the two matrices with one as the response and the other as the predictor, and compute an R2 value of the correlation between the two matrices. Is there a built-in function in R that does this? If not, how can I compute an R2 value of a correlation between two matrices? best, Manabu -- Manabu Sakamoto, PhD School of Earth Sciences University of Bristol manabu.sakamoto at googlemail.com

how 'stepAIC' selects?

Or does it perform any test eg. whether the decrease > in "information content" between a model with a given predictor and > another without it is "significant"? > Thanks for help! > VB As a complement to what Uwe said, you may want to consider that Sakamoto et al., in p. 84, Ch. 4, Remark 2, of "Akaike Information Criterion Statistics", 1986, KTK Scientific Publishers, write "From the relation between AIC and the entropy, if the differences of AIC's for MODEL(j) and MODEL(k) is larger than 1~2, then the difference is considered to...

version 1.9.3 released
...ack is welcome on the range of binary gems offered. == THANKS == Thank you very much to everyone who helped with this release with patches, bug reports and suggestions and discussions on the mailing lists. Contributors to the 1.9.3 code include Sean Long, Mario Steele, Albin Holmgren, Ryuichi Sakamoto and Dale Edmons == WHAT''S NEXT == There''s some smaller issues to iron out, so we''ll look to have a 1.9.4 release with a bit less of a gap than before this release. In the interim, look out for an updated release of wxSugar, with some nifty new code generation tools....

Nested AIC
Greetings, I have recently come into some confusion over weather or not AIC results for comparing among models requires that they be nested. Reading Burnham & Anderson (2002) they are explicit that nested models are not required, but other respected statisticians have suggested that nesting is a pre-requisite for comparison. Could anyone who feels strongly regarding either position

akaike's information criterion
Hello all, i hope you don't mind my off topic question. i want to use the Akaike criterion for variable selection in a regression model. Does anyone know some basic literature about that topic? Especially I'm interested in answers to the following questions: 1. Has (and if so how has) the criterion to be modified, if i estimate the transformations of the variables too? 2. How is the

1.9.2, OpenGL
[third sending attempt...] I''m going to try and test out the samples on MSW over the next few days and if things look good I think we should release 1.9.2. Might try and fix the bugs related to TreeCtrl#get_first_child as these might involve minor API changes. So if anyone has any time to test out SVN HEAD and look for anything funny, please do. Also, we have an anonymous patch
