This is obviously not a long term acceptable solution. Could someone please enlighten me as to the permanent solution, or at least see why it doesn't work? This is not my problem, therefore I have not had the opportuntity to test - I don't have a version that old. Let me know if it is solved in a newer version as well. Thanks. It is a workable solution, although the generally accepted

Is there something wrong with R version 3.0.2 (2013-09-25) -- "Frisbee Sailing"?
Hi, pnorm(-1.53,0,1) under version 3.0.2 gives 0.05155075. I am pretty sure it should be 0.063. Is there something wrong with this version of R? preferred directory structure for multiple environments
Hello All, Moving from 2.5 to 2.6.2 and I was wondering if there is a preferred directory structure for using multiple environments? Does it work much different in 2.6 than in 2.5? When I made the move I assumed (I know) that my current structure and configurations would just roll over but that isn''t the case. A Modest Definition List Proposal
Howdy, I've been thinking a lot about definition list syntax, and what I did and didn't like about the PHP Markdown Extra syntax (which seems to be a de-facto standard, discount notwithstanding, yes?). What I came up with is a single character change to the PHP Markdown Extra syntax. I just published a detailed explanation of my thoughts and reasoning for this on [my

problem with ldpaths
I've just installed r-base (several times!) using the instructions at http://cran.us.r-project.org/bin/linux/ubuntu/ and for some reason it is not creating a /etc/R/ldpaths file. I've tried a few times, tried purging, and removing everything in /etc/R and /usr/lib/R as suggested by Dirk, and reinstalling but still get $ R /usr/bin/R: line 236: /usr/lib/R/etc/ldpaths: No such file

R string comparisons may vary with platform (plain text)
A colleague?s R program behaved differently when I ran it, and we thought we traced it probably to different results from string comparisons as below, with different R versions. However the platforms also differed. A friend ran it on a few machines and found that the comparison behavior didn?t correlate with R version, but rather with platform. I wonder if you?ve seen this. If it?s not some

An initial look at Trails
I''m posting this here because I''m sure that there are a few Rails fans here who are stuck in Java land at work and willing to consider Trails as a compromise. ( Web version here: http://weblog.masukomi.org/index.pl/view/trails ) First let me set the stage I love [Rails](http://www.rubyonrails.com) but I work in a Java shop. FastCGI: Apache 1.x or 2 on new Debian System?
Hi, I am just installing a new test environment, but this is just for preparing the next one, which will be a production server. I am doing a clean Debian Sarge 3.1 install with stable sources. I have to decide if I install Apache 1.x or 2 now. I have read that FastCGI is better supported/developed for Apache 1.x. Is this (still) true? What is easier, more stable, etc? I want to run rails

Where are usbhid-ups driver parameters defined - and what do some of them mean?
I am using the usbhid-ups driver with a Belkin UPS. upsc shows several parameters which I would like to both understand and probably change. In particular the following part of upsc output: battery.charge.low: 30 battery.charge.warning: 30 battery.runtime: 120 My questions are: 1) What is the difference between battery.charge.low and battery.charge.warning? I presume these are %

Samba hectic behaviour
Hello List. I am having a very interesting problem with my samba server printer setup. Some background , the samba server is Suse Enterprise 9 (x86_64 platform) , we are running samba-3.0.26a-0.7 , with a connection to an openldap and sharing the printers via cupsd . File sharing is working properly , so it's smooth sailing on that end , but the printing is acting up . some users are able
