Re[2]: --link-dest --inplace updates files without unlinking. What to do?
Ok, thanks. I removed --inplace and --append-verify and kept --link-dest and --partial.
And now the script works exactly as I want: hard-links are not updated, the script is still robust and can
copy large files over unstable links etc, etc.

...then renames this to (for example) 2014-12-01-000000. So, if rsync interrupts, then at the next run the script will end "in-progress" (all partial files will be done) and then will rename this dir to 2014-12-01-000000. So, there never will be partial files in finished snapshots.

...rsync will never write new file directly into old one (without unlinking). If there already is old file and it needs updating, then rsync will write into something like .file-He4gw, and then it will rename this file to its right name. This new file will not have any hardlinks to old files

This is OK for me. I care about file contents, not metadata.

Okey, so, I should remove --inplace and --append-verify? But then copying large file over unstable inet will not work, right? Is there any way to keep --link-dest working right and simultaneously have possibility to copy large file over unstable inet?

You mean making "cp -al" on the remote and then start rsync to newly created dir with --partial and without --link-dest, --inplace, --append-verify?
What is benefits? Even metadata will not leak to old files?

Okey, I will stick with --link-dest, thanks a lot.

You can still do "cp -al" and backup "ls -lR" or "find -ls" output. :)

--link-dest --inplace updates files without unlinking. What to do?
...is was wrong.
So, what to do? I. e. how to fix the script? Or maybe this is a bug in rsync? I. e. "--link-dest --inplace doesn't unlink"? Some quick fix will be good.
Maybe I should remove --inplace and leave --partial? But will the script still be such robust in this case?

Are you specifying --partial-dir? Seems like that would be needed or
else you will end up would end up with an incomplete copy in the
previous target?

--link-dest --inplace updates files without unlinking. What to do?
...If a link
exists in the target and needs a metadata change then rsync will do a
chmod, chown, whatever which updates all the instances of the file.
If there hadn't already been a link there rsync would have written out
an entire new file to have the new metadata.

I want my metadata to be correct on each backup so if one of my
- --link-dest backups fails for some reason I delete the entire target
and start over using the same link-dest and a new empty target.

in the backups and see if any permissions have changed. So, maybe I
have extra copies of some php, html, and jpg files but I know how they
were at the time they were backed up.

must write an entirely new file even for a change in permissions or
timestamps so any potential benefit by these options are out the
window from the start. The only thing they can do is add the
possibility of incomplete or corrupt copies on the target.

CLI message: remote unix connection disconnected
I am running the most recent asterisk 1.2.13 on a Fedora 3.0.
When I go into asterisk (asterisk -r), defaults to verbose 3 and I get
a stream of messages:
Remote Unix connection
Remote Unix connection disconnected
...
...
(keeps on repeating).
I went to google and searched on "asterisk Remote Unix connection
disconnected" but cannot find anything I can recognize.
I checked my iax.conf

Asterisk with SuSe 10
Has anyone had any experience with the Asterisk on a SuSe 10 platform?
I'm currently using FC3 but because we use SuSe within other parts of
the business I'm being pushed to changed the OS.

Lee

Grandstream FXS Gateway star codes
I purchased a Grandstream 4 FXS Gateway and my *XXXX extensions are
not working. I disable the special features and changed the DIAL to
{X*#+} but not luck.
I can dial any other number, receive calls and so on. This is the
only thing that seems to be an issue.
Has anybody found a way around this problem.
