Problem with memdisk and DOS on USB
...isk. Then I tried DOS 6.22, in every way I tried, it ends at "Please insert a system disk and press any key to continue...", I tried all the way from memdisk-3.54 to 2.13 and 1.76 freezes at Booting. Finally I had a Windows ME boot image, tried with memdisk-3.52, it does not boot, I added safeint, and everything works! At last! Using raw/bigraw make it stop at "Starting Windows Millenium Recovery...", but with safeint it seems to be working perfectly. I would like to add that for every image I tried, I tried to use safeint, raw and bigraw, and after hours of trying, I'm givin...

Bug-report: Memdisk regression for XMGR DOS memory manager
For the boot floppy at http://superkeen.com/peacecorpsfiles/FUZOMA14.IMG using memdisk from syslinux version 3.72 boots correctly, but for memdisk versions newer than 3.72 (I tested 3.73, 3.75, 3.85, and 3.86) all hang at boot with the following message: Loading boot sector... booting FreeDOS kernel - SVN (build 2039 OEM:0xfd [compiled Oct 2 2009]) Kernel compatibility 6.22 - BORLANDC ... memdisk and netbootdisk
Hi guys, I'm trying boot a floppy basead netbootdisk solution ( http://www.netbootdisk.com/) using grub and memdisk. This is a Floppy 1.44 Mb with TCP/IP and Ethernet Drivers for DOS. This image doesn't has a command.com. This file is unzipped on boot. Using a floppy, the machine boots, but when I trying to use a image from floppy which memdisk, the boots hangs. The image can found at

SYSLINUX 3.73-pre3
I just pushed out SYSLINUX 3.73-pre3. The only significant difference over -pre2 was changing MEMDISK to use "safeint" by default. -hpa

What should I try now? -- Thanks, Feri.

memdisk image problems on shuttle hardware
...s out Operating System not found (or some such, basically the image loads but doesn't work) I think I saw at one point that an ancient version of syslinux/memdisk worked fine (2x era), but I am not positive. I will be sure to test that asap to confirm. I have tried the various raw/bigraw/safeint/edd/noedd without luck. Any chance you would have access to a shuttle you can test against? otherwise I will investigate setting up a serial console to the box and getting you remote access. I have tested against 3.70 and still have the same problem. By chance is there a way to set a pause or...

booting a dos floppy from a disk image over pxe
Hello, I'm trying to boot a dos floppy stored on a disk image which is initially loaded over pxe using memdisk. I've created the disk image as follows: dd if=/dev/zero of=$IMGLOCATION/$IMGNAME bs=$(( 1024 * 1024 )) count=20 LOOPDEV=$(losetup --show -f $IMGLOCATION/$IMGNAME) MAJOR_MINOR=$(ls -l $LOOPDEV|awk '{print $5$6}'|sed 's/,/:/') DMSIZE=$(( $(ls -l

MEMDISK issues and Dell OptiPlex and Latitude systems
Hello all. Again I call upon the greats of this mailing list to help me with an issue related to MEMDISK - notably when paired with various Dell OptiPlex and Latitude systems. The issue presented itself sometime ago and I best dealt with it by remaining with version 3.83 of the SYSLINUX package. But valuing the improved changes fostered by newer versions, I would prefer to move forward with

SYSLINUX 3.73 released
...* Upgrade gPXE to release version 0.9.5. * Fix a number of build errors on various platforms. * Handle systems with E820 "extended attributes" per ACPI 3. Someone "cleverly" decided to change the E820 spec in a backwards-incompatible manner! * MEMDISK: default to "safeint". * Adopt the moniker "The Syslinux Project", standard proper noun capitalization, to refer to the project as a whole. Thus, reserve the all-caps "SYSLINUX" to refer to the FAT loader. * mboot.c32: add "-solaris" option to pass DHCP information to th...

MEMDISK-ISO: found another non-working ISO
Hi Shao Miller, I found another ISO that doesn't work with MEMDISK-ISO. It is the ISO of the PloP bootmanager. It is a ISO which uses floppy emulation. When I boot it with MEMDISK-ISO (run from Syslinux), my PC instantly reboots. When I extract the floppy image from the ISO and boot this file with MEMDISK, it works fine. Grub4dos iso emulation works fine for this iso. When using Grub4dos

SYSLINUX 3.35-pre5 released -- release candidate
...lease this as 3.35 early next week unless I hear of any showstopper bugs, so please, pretty please, try it out. http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/utils/boot/syslinux/Testing/ kernel.org has been overloaded lately, so it might take a while to show up. Changes in 3.35: * MEMDISK: New "safeint" mode. * MEMDISK: Be more compliant with the PnP BIOS spec. * MEMDISK: Turn on EDD support by default. * MEMDISK: Try to work on some machines on which it would not work when there was no floppy drive in the system. * Simple menu system: fix seria...

push-pop ordering error found in memdisk
H. Peter Anvin, The following problem came to my attention with memdisk. I cannot claim the credit, but wanted to be sure the information made it back into the program for the benefit of all users... In file memdisk.asm, in respect of the operation of the raw and bigraw options, the order of pop instructions does not correspond to the order registers are pushed;

Dell problems with PXELINUX 3.62
...d to rule out PXELINUX, so instead I put GRUB4DOS 0.4.4 on the local HDD. I booted to the HDD and ran GRUB4DOS. From its CLI, I did: kernel /memdisk initrd /dellgx280.imz and encountered the same failures as the PXELINUX case. The "raw," "bigraw," "int," and "safeint" (default) modes all produce the same failure. Then I tested using GRUB4DOS' non-memory drive mapping technique, which also failed. To do this, I used an uncompressed copy of your image which I had also been testing. This caused me to have a tough time believing that the disk _could_ wo...

1 model out of a dozen hangs at "loading boot sector... booting..."
Hello, I am new to this list. We are trying to move away from our WDS server with PXElinux mods and are testing using iPXE on a linux box only. We mainly use HP but also have Dells, Panasonic, and Lenovo. On almost a dozen models tested now, everything works great. These were mostly laptops but a Dell Optiplex 360 and 380 booted fine. So far we have just had a problem with the HP 6005 Pro SFF

MEMDISK issue with OptiPlex GX280,620
...e probing gives drive shift limit: 0x01 old: int13 = f00042e4 int15 = f000f859 int1e = f000efc7 new: int13 = 9f00000a int15 = 9f0003ba int1e = f000efc7 Loading boot sector... booting... Starting PC DOS... Any insight to be had? Setting different MEMDISK memory access methods (raw, bigraw, int, safeint) offered no changes. Equally, changing the OptiPlex BIOS 'SATA Operation' configuration from Normal to Combination yielded no difference. And for what it is worth, the OptiPlex 755, 780, and 980 are not affected by this "bug". Please tell me there's hope. Regards.

Memdisk + Freedos problem
I and some other people have problems with running the freedos image included in Ultimate Boot CD (UBCD), when using memdisk for floppy emulation. Memdisk starts booting the image and freedos shows the following menu: 0 Boot Clean 1 Boot UMBPCI (silent) 2 Boot UMBPCI (optimal) 3 Boot UMBPCI (semi-defensive) 4 Boot EMM386 (optimal) 5 Boot EMM386 (semi-defensive) 6 Boot no UMB (defensive) 7 Boot

Is There an Alternative to MEMDISK ?
This isn't an esp urgent issue, but I'd like to use a certain RAM diagnostic (Doc Mem) which I've already posted a note about a couple of months ago. Simply won't work booting the floppy disk image via MEMDISK. In the interim, I've tried to resolve this by changing things on my side. I'm pretty sure it's a XMS incompatibility, as it fails differently depending on

Buggy bios, boot of dos image hangs with syslinux, but not with isolinux
...ried syslinux from an usb stick. The menu loads fine but I cannot boot disc images with memdisk on this computer. It works fine on others, of course. But now comes the weird part, if I use the same config with isolinux and boot from cd it works on this computer. I played around with raw, bigraw and safeint but nothing worked. Here is the output: Ramdisk at 0xdbef0000, length 0x002d0000 Disk is floppy 0, 2880K C/H/S = 80/2/36, EDD off Using raw access to high memory Total size needed = 2454 bytes, allocating 3K Old dos memory at 0x9d800 (map says 0x9d800), loading at 0x9cc00 1588: 0xffff 15E801: 0x3...
