SMP/PCMCIA
I have two sacrificial lambs -- one is an SMP box, the other one''s a
laptop, but I don''t see kernel-smp or kernel-pcmcia-cs packages.
So, can I use the ext3 patch on an SMP box or a laptop?

Kernel panic on 6.8 release with kernel-2.6.32-642.el6.x86_64
...tes on a few test-machines since they became available
and have had no problem. Weird...
I've tested some more now, and it seems the upgrade went fine on my
Virtualbox Win7-host for the test-guests. No kernel-panic, all seems well.
The ones that failed were all Hyper-V guests.
I need to pick a sacrificial physical computer and see if it's reproducible.
For now, trouble-shooting and testing on Hyper-V as I write this.

[PATCH] Guest boot loader support
Attached is an updated version of the patch to add boot loader support
for guest domains.
Changes from the initial set of patches:
* Per Ian''s request, adds an option to specify booting a specific kernel
from the host domain (you can specify it either with the title of the
boot loader config entry or with the grub 0-based index)
* Reduces some of the code duplication for finding out

...d appeared telling me about systemd and asking me if I wanted
to use it, or stick with the old init framework, I'd have opted for the
latter (as I was interested primarily in continuity from the previous
version.) But I'd have noted the existence of systemd, and would have
tried it out on a sacrificial box - I might even have got to like it!
But having it rammed down my throat just put me off it for life (bit

exporting SAS card for using external device
Hi There,
I was wondering if it is possible to export a LSI SAS card (with
external input) into the windows xp VM I have setup, The plan is to use
a tape drive on it -- has anyone done this before or could point me to
any info?
Debian stable, Xen 3.0.3-1-amd64
Many thanks
Mark

T100P specs
Does anyone have the physical spec sheet for the T100P from Digium? The one
on the website doesn't have what I need. Things like 3.3 or 5v operation,
uses n IRQ channels, requires 32-bit PCI, must be installed while standing
on one foot and reciting the GPL, etc. Also, if anyone is selling a used
T100P or TE4xxP I'd like to talk...
Thanks,

...problems to solve -- perhaps you need to patch the sources or perhaps it just plain won't work on Centos. That's the place where I'll usually give up unless it's really important to me to get it to work.
If it is really important (that doesn't happen very often) then I keep a sacrificial Centos 7 Virtual Box image that I can use to experiment with changing some of the stuff that's under the hood without worrying about blowing up my main desktop. But again, that doesn't happen very often.
Note that some Fedora stuff won't work on Centos. Period.
But some stuff will...

Kernel panic on 6.8 release with kernel-2.6.32-642.el6.x86_64
Hi all,
Just tested the new CentOS 6.8 release on a few VMs and a physical box and
got a kernel panic.
Is it just me, or anybody else as well?
Just fishing for now, will look into the issue more thoroughly later today.

dovecot memory consumption beta vs. old "stable" series
Hi!
I just wanted to know if anyone can give a definitive answer if dovecot
beta's memory requirements are much better than in the old pre-alpha
"stable" series?
I'm using a rather old stable.20050712 release on an also rather old
Debian Sarge box to manage my personal mails. I'm pretty satisfied with
this dovecot release but it's memory consumption when deleting

It wasn?t a huge surprise. systemd was in Fedora since f15, and RHEL7 was branched from f18 (iirc). systemd was in the RHEL7.0 be...

question in using nlme and lme4 for unbalanced data
Hello:
I have an two factorial random block design. It's a ecology
experiment. My two factors are, guild removal and enfa removal. Both
are two levels, 0 (no removal), 1 (removal). I have 5 blocks. But
within each block, it's unbalanced at plot level because I have 5
plots instead of 4 in each block. Within each block, I have 1 plot
with only guild removal, 1 plot with only enfa removal,
