ordering a vector
Hi,
is there a R function that order a matrix according to some criteria
based on the rows(or cols) of that matrix?
For example, let's say that my matrix S is composed by n rows S_1,
S_2,.., S_n and that I compute some real value g_i=g(S_i) for each
row.
Then I want to order this set of g_i (from smaller to bigger) and
order the correspondent row to the new position.
Is it possible (apart from looping on the index) to do this with some
predefined R function?
Thanks,
Francesco

bitpeeler
...er of these tries, and sounds significantly
better.
I'm starting to get the impression that (excuse me while I commit what
is probably an atrocity wrt to the Vorbis algorithm) the compression
used by Vorbis isn't a "stable" sequence, i.e., one for which
|S_{n+1} - S_n| < 1/k |S_n - S_{n-1}|
otherwise, I suspect that cutting out half the bits would degrade the
sound quality significantly, but wouldn't introduce the kinds of
artifacts I was hearing.

of each packet) to determine a nearly-...

Constraint Optimization with constrOptim
Hi,
I am having trouble using constrOptim. My target is to do a portfolio optimization and there some constraints have to be fulfilled.
1) The weight of each share of the portfolio has to be greater than 0
2) The sum of these weights has to be 1
I am able to fulfill either the first or the second constraint but not both.
One simple way would be to fulfill the first constraint by using optim as

[I need unsigned Stirling numbers of the first kind]
cheers

Passing function to tapply as a string
Hi,
Was wondering if it is possible to pass function name as a parameter, smth
along this line
param.to.pass<-c(1,'max','h')
dd<-function(dfd, param=param.to.pass,...){
ttime.int <- format(ttime,fmt)
data.frame(
param[3] = tapply(dfd[,param[1]],ttime.int,param[3]),
...)
}
I know there is a as.formula expression but not quite sure if there is some

PLS component selection for GPLS question
...ents in GPLS, but I'm still not sure how to
choose the right number of PLS components for my data set.
I used the function errorest() from package ipred to estimate the
error rates und gpls() with Firth procedure switched on.
The attached PDF Graphik illustrates the problem for my data set.
S_n is the model sensitivity and S_p the model specifity.
With 4 component I get the best crossvalidation error rate 17% and
with 5 components the best bootstrap error rate 9%, but
the sensitivity of the model is only 11% !
If one choose 13 components, one gets 100% sensitivity and 100%
specifity a...

Sequences
Hi,
I am trying to make a sequence and am using a for loop for this. I want to
start off with an initial value ie S[0]=0 then use the loop to create other
values. This is what I have so far but I just keep getting error messages.
#To calculate the culmulative sums:
s<-rep(0,207) #as this is the length of the
vector I know I will have
s<-as.vector(s)
