S10u6, zfs and zones
My server runs S10u5. All slices are UFS. I run a couple of sparse zones on a seperate slice mounted on /zones. When S10u6 comes out booting of ZFS will become possible. That is great news. However, will it be possible to have those zones I run now too? I always understood ZFS and root zones are difficult. I hope to b...

Upgrading ZFS Version on Solaris 08/07
I wanted to crossgrade from OpenSolaris b65 to Solaris 10 08/07 for my main fileserver, but I found that I could not import my zpool due to a version mismatch. Is there any way to upgrade only ZFS on 08/07 so that it matches or exceeds the version used by b68? Blake -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... URL:

Terrible zfs performance under NFS load
Hello, We have a S10U5 server sharing with zfs sharing up NFS shares. While using the nfs mount for a log destination for syslog for 20 or so busy mail servers we have noticed that the throughput becomes severly degraded shortly. I have tried disabling the zil, turning off cache flushing and I have not seen any changes...

ZIL controls in Solaris 10 U4?
Is it true that Solaris 10 u4 does not have any of the nice ZIL controls that exist in the various recent Open Solaris flavors? I would like to move my ZIL to solid state storage, but I fear I can''t do it until I have another update. Heck, I would be happy to just be able to turn the ZIL off to see how my NFS on ZFS performance is effected before spending the $''s. Anyone

New qemu source drop with improved kqemu module
I have uploaded a current source drop from the qemu subversion repository, to the download area. Additionally, there is a new Kernel kqemu module that will allow a 32-bit guest to run on a 64-bit host. The current source base uses a different code generator from the orignial Dyngen one. The new one is called "TCG" for "The Code Generator" and is supposed to fix the

Inexistant file displayed by samba
Hello, Running 3.2.0, and in one of my share, a file named TABAFK~V appeared, but is not present on the underlying filesystem. The file can't be removed from a windows client (even a member of domain admins). Not that it is distrubing, but you know... Fran?ois

ZFS panics solaris while switching a volume to read-only
Hi, I just found out that ZFS triggers a kernel-panic while switching a mounted volume into read-only mode: The system is attached to a Symmetrix, all zfs-io goes through Powerpath: I ran some io-intensive stuff on /tank/foo and switched the device into read-only mode at the same time (symrdf -g bar failover -establish). ZFS went ''bam'' and triggered a Panic: WARNING: /pci at

checksum errors after online''ing device
...m errors on the formerly offlined device. We decided to scrub the pool and after several hours we got about 3500 error in 600GB of data. I always thought that ZFS would sync the mirror immediately after bringing the device online not requiring a scrub. Am I wrong? Both, servers and clients run s10u5 with the latest patches but we saw the same behaviour with OpenSolaris clients Any hints? no luck with Xen....
Perhaps someone has ideas on this topic, a recent attempt to play with Xen was a reather unlucky event, all what I will be able to demonstrate on that system is a PV ONNV domU which ikely will not be very attractive to the audience :( HW: U40M2, 2 x 2 core AMD revF procs, 8GB MEM, Phonix BIOS 1.5 (latest) 1 x 200GB internal SATA drive SW: dom0 ONNV build 82, latest VirtManager from

understanding zfs/thunoer "bottlenecks"?
Currently I''m trying to figure out the best zfs layout for a thumper wrt. to read AND write performance. I did some simple mkfile 512G tests and found out, that per average ~ 500 MB/s seems to be the maximum on can reach (tried initial default setup, all 46 HDDs as R0, etc.). According to http://www.amd.com/us-en/assets/content_type/DownloadableAssets/ArchitectureWP_062806.pdf I would

ZFS extended ACL
What is wrong with this? # chmod -R A+user:webservd:add_file/write_data/execute:allow /var/apache chmod: invalid mode: `A+user:webservd:add_file/write_data/execute:allow'' Try `chmod --help'' for more information. This works in a zone, works on S10u5, does not work on OpenSolaris2008.11. CT
