mp3 plugin for Rythmbox or Totem?
Can anybody please suggest a suitable plugin to enable playing of mp3 files with either Totem or Rythmbox. Both of these come as part of the CentOS 5 package, but strangely neither has the necessary plugin for mp3, which surely is a common enough format in the music world? Thanks, Andy

[Flac-users] software
...Like, say I want to mark a file if I consider it to be played-out for me, > and then have the option to disclude played-out files during playback. From > the FAQ, it looks like RhythmBox can't tag files. Could I tag a FLAC file > in that way with another app and then play it back in RythmBox in the way I > describe? I guess this is both a FLAC and RythmBox question. as far as flac goes, i think its possible to have custom tags because this is possible with vorbiscommet. i believe that metaflac can be used to change the comments. on the rhythmbox side, there is no support for cu...

Wine performance drops hard on popup notification
Ubuntu 10.4 32bit I've tried Ubuntu proprietary drivers, and latest Nvidia drivers 256.53 or something. (gpu = evga 8600 gts 256mb) Wine versions 1.2 and up all have my issue When I run Steam games windowed or fullscreened, they run amazing. Until I get a skype/pidgin/rythmbox/email notification popup, at which point the steam app drops dramatically in performance. (1 different frame every 10 seconds) I've installed various things via wine tricks, and things just don't seem to fix it. I'm curious if this is a common issue, or better yet is a quick fix availab...

[Flac-users] software
Hello everyone! I'd like to set up a FLAC jukebox on a Linux laptop. What do you guys recommend for software? I need to be able to tag the files according to the data I want in there, and then I need to be able to play the files back in all kinds of crazy ways according to the tags. What do you guys recommend? - Grant

Players (O.T.)
Sorry for the off topic posting, but I'm not a real music person and know little about what software will do what. Without turning this into a big discussion for pro or con, could someone drop a line or 3 just stating the name(s) of some type music players? I'd probably want something that would play CD's and perhaps mp3's. I don't guess there is a "catch-all" like

BlueTooth Headset
...installed work just fine using the built-in speakers). My registry contains the following: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Wine\Alsa Driver\ - AutoScanCards N - DeviceCount 1 - DevicePCM1 bluetooth - DeviceCTL1 bluetooth My ~/.alsactl is configured accordingly. I am using the headphones with Rythmbox, Totem and MPlayer just fine. Dunno whether I'm missing something or if this is a bug (as the nice people in #winehq suggest), but any help would be appreciated in any case :-) Best regards, Raphael Schmid

Wine installation problems
So I went to sourceforge.net and dowloaded the 1.1.10 version of Wine. The problem is that after I download it, I cannot open the file because "an error occurred while opening the achrive." What does this mean and how do I get Wine? Thank you.

Theora file extension
Theora and Vorbis both uses same extension .ogg. I know ogg is a container, just like avi. But in my opinion video and audio files should have different extensions (using .ogv can be a nice idea). To a media player it doesn't matter what extension a file uses, but to a human who does a ls in a directory full of media files having different extensions will help a lot. I know one can use file
