Installing CentOS 4.1 on IA64
Hi,
I am trying to install Centos 4.1 on IA64 machine. However, during
loading of vmlinuz and initrd.img , i will get a kernel panic. Does
anyone has this problem? I think it's due to initrd.img

CentOS 4.1 ia64 is now final
Hi,
The short version:
- no more custom kernel
- CD-version available too
Longer version:
The separate announcement for ia64 is due the fact that initial 4.0
version was distributed with customised kernel. That was done because i
had to fix the serial console installation on rx1600 box which was not
working on upstream vendor kernel.
Later upstream vendor has made patch for it too (much more elegant than
mine), so the custom kernel is not needed on any system i know of.
Frakly i do test only on rx1600/2600 as that is the hardware i do have.
Another change is that i made CD...

CentOS-4.0 (RC1) for ia64 Official Release
...o move to a Final Release. Unless there are any urgent security
issues, there will be no package update provided for RC1.
---------------------
Known Issues include a problem with the serial console installation. I
have not found the right combination to be able to install any 4-based
version to rx1600 w/ only ttyS0. Will keep looking for this later.

README NOTES:
Due to the fact that the upstream kernel didn't quite work on basic
rx1600 box (the one w/o MC), there has been two kernels. The official
CentOS-4 one and the one i have patched to work on above mentioned box.
I do myself have such boxen, so i need it myself.
So if you have installed on such box, be carefull about the update
process. Make sure you get the one from cento...

...vided sources and as i knew
about it, i could not let the installation images go out in state where
one would have hanging X after firstboot (new installations) or hanging
X after boot. The xorg-x11-package is modified to disable DRI on Radeon
7000 (RV100) which is common on ia64-hardware as in the RX1600/RX2600
MC/ILO-board integrated VGA-conroller.
The other thing is that the shipped mx-package, if installed, will
render new yum unusable. The fedora-devel version mx-2.0.6 (the shipped
one is mx-2.0.5) doesn't have this problem and there is so little
changes that i just decided to ship with th...
