delivering mail to public mbox with permission 660?
...cided it best to first migrate to Postfix/Dovecot mbox and later worry about migrating to maildir (as suggested on the Dovecot wiki mailbox format page). I have configured private (also as default) and public namespaces with the public mailboxes stored in /var/mail/public. /var/mail/public has rwxrws--- and is group tarts (the shared "company" group for this server). Initially I had procmail configured via the mailbox_command. Initial test mail sent to user tarts triggered creation of /var/mail/tarts with 660 permissions as expected. I then changed the configuration to use delive...

Help! permission denied when accessing folder
...+group7 +group8............+group17 +studempl invalid users = +circdesk Note: I am a member of one of the groups defined in valid users above. I have not restarted the samba server but I don't think that would be necessary. Actually I would like to set the permissions on the folder to be -rwxrws--- but just being able to access it would be a start. I would appreciate ang comments or suggestions. Thank you. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Daulton Theodore Carleton University Library, Systems Department Vmail: (613) 520-2600, ext. 8352

Help pls. -- Samba permission question
Hi, All, I'm having a problem with my samba server(v3.6.9) setup. I have a share on the server: #cd / #mkdir managment #chown -R root:managegroup management #chowm -R 2770 management When I test this I found out: the managegroup member can create new file/dir with the correct permission: -rwxrws--- or drwxrws--- BUT, when the client copy a file or dir to the share from his local drive, then some file/dir will have different the permission when it coiped to the Samba share. (for example, drwxrwxr-x) We have both Windows and Ubuntu client. Ubuntu client use cifs.mount to access the Samb...

MS Word and Samba File Permissions Problem
...Office 2000 on w2k ####################### All the files/directories on this share belong to the group "domuser". I found a hint in the Samba HowTo collection: http://de.samba.org/samba/docs/man/AccessControls.html#id2920312 According to that I set the sgid bit on all the directories (rwxrws---) and did set the "force create/directory mode" but that doesn't help. If anyone came across a similar problem or even a solution, please help me. A samba fileserver. that scrambles write-rights in conjunction with M$ Word is pretty useless .. Thanx in advance Alexander -- -...

directory mask = 2770
Hello everyone. I am using Samba 2.0.7 on a RedHat 6.2 machine. I wanted to apply a directory mask of 2770 to everything created in a share. The root directory of this share already has these permissions. I want to have it so that everything created in a certain directory has the permissions of the group of the creator. As it stands, I do have the directory mask = 2770 line in the smb.conf

Confused about permissions needed for shared mailbox
...ough to achieve that and that ACLs is only if I want to fine tunes mailbox permissions ? 2) let's say that my public namespace prefix is Public/, that the .box/ maildir is in /path/to/public/.box and my 2 users belong to the doveshared unix group. I thought it would be enough to have drwxrws--- 3 root doveshared 4096 Jan 28 14:55 public drwxrws--- 3 root doveshared 4096 Jan 28 14:55 public/.box -rwxrws--- 1 root doveshared 0 Jan 26 18:25 public/.box/dovecot-shared provided that my prefetch userdb returns system_user, as I think the following says in dovecot-ldap.conf :...

Allow write but not overwrite?
Hello, I want to configure a Samba server to serve as an "archive" where users would be allowed to read, write new files, but not overwrite or delete them once they're there. I guess a script that changes the file permissions (ran, say, every 10 minutes) would do the trick but I was wondering if a cleaner way exists. Thanks, Jonathan Kelly

Need urgent help witch create mask rights
...r this, now called "Drop-Box" support, very recently. I have yet to document it. I hope to do that soon. Here is the core of what you need to do: 1. Create a directory share point 2. Set the owner to someone who is NOT a member of the group that owns the directory 3. Set permissions to: rwxrws--- 4. In smb.conf: a) Create a share stanza b) Add: inherit permissions = Yes inherit owner = Yes 5. Users must be members of the group that owns the directory and the files within it. That is the rough notes I took at the time. I have not tested this - so be warned that I suffer bit-rot an...

samba pdc premissions problem
Hello Everybody, I have samba 2.2.8a instaled on a RedHat 7.3 Gnu/Linux. I'm trying to setup a Samba as a PDC Server for Win2K/XP/98 workstations. The basic stuff did very well, everybody can join and access the domain. But now I want the shares by departments and give only access to the correct users. I tried to setup a group policy between my users and shares doing the
