...failed to execute conf-background.agi
on the CLI
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 37 Mar 17 10:11 conf-background.agi ->
/home/silentm/bin/conf-background.agi
my conf background is a symbolic link - then my permissions are :

-rwSr-Sr-- 1 root root 81 Mar 17 10:44 /home/silentm/bin/conf-background.agi
I have tried with just 744 and also with 744 and chmod +s.
Any ideas why I would get the permission denied?

OpenSSH_6.7p1 hostbased authentication failing on linux->linux connection. what's wrong with my config?
...hostbased authentication uses the client's host keys, and
it is likewise the only method that uses ssh-keysign. Further,
ssh-keysign is only used for non-root users.

smbclient works, smbmount does not
Hi there,
after browsing the mailing list archives for several hour I still couldn't
find an answer to my problem, although it for sure sounds as if many people
posted the same problem. Yet, none of the threads dealing with problems like
these matched my problem, so I have to start a new thread on my own.
This is my system environment:

- Mandrake Linux 8.1

CentOS-5.2 su -l is failing
I am encountering an odd problem with su. Up until quite recently I was
able to connect to one of my servers (CentOS-5.2) via ssh as an ordinary
user and then, from the shell, perform an $ su -l to obtain root access.
Now when I try to do this I see the following:
$ su -l

libvirt.so is not safe to use from setuid programs
Hi,
When trying to connect the HyperVisor from a binary having setuid bit set , then I got following error:
Unable to perform virConnectOpenReadOnly function error(internal error: libvirt.so is not safe to use from setuid programs)
My test software config is the following :
-rwsr-xr-x. 1 root root 3374956 Feb 4 13:45 test
As this test software needs S bit to be able to access O.S. metrics counters , how may I use it to retrieve KVM metrics counters ?
Thx for help.

no suidbits after building the iso!
...ux.bin -no-emul-boot
-boot-load-size 4 -boot-info-table -l -R -r .
after buning the iso on cd I can boot my rescue system.
unfortunately, i have figured out that there are some files with a lack
of permissions e.g. I have a bin/su in the tree for the iso with the
following permission settings:
-rwsr-xr-x 1 root root 91469 Oct 12 10:50 /ROOT_DIR/bin/su
after checking the file when the cd has booted:
-rw-rw-rw 1 root root 91469 Oct 12 10:55 /bin/su
so, the suid-bit has gone! can someone please tell me where it is gone
:-))) And what to do to solve this problem?...

Maybe there should be a context change to some mta specific context
diuring the execution of /usr/sbin/sendmail.
ls -Z /usr/zbin
-rwsr-xr-x root root system_u:object_r:sbin_t /usr/sbin/exim

/usr/sbin/sendmail -> /etc/alternatives/mta
lrwxrwxrwx root root system_u:object_r:sbin_t
/usr/sbin/sendmail.exim -> exim
Maybe exim shuld be sendmail_exec_t ?...

Printing question
Hello all.
I have a question about setting up samba to serve windows printing.
I have been trying to research this but keep coming up with conflicting
howto's. Can someone give me directions to an up-to-date print howto? It
would be greatly appreciated as I am stuck on this.
Cheers,
Tony

Problem printing from NT to printer attached to LInux box
I installed Samba 2.2.2 on my Linux box. The smb.conf file is as shown
below. The permission on /var/spool/lpd/lp is set to 755; ie, it is
writable only by the owner, which is lp. With the setup as is, when I
try to print from the NT machine, the smb log on the Linux box
indicates the following error: " print_job_start: insufficient
permissions to open spool file /var/spool/lpd/lp".
