File sync/delete question
...es. In fact,
there is also an "outgoing" directory, that is also on the samba server
and mirrored to the ftp server, so incoming should work the same way).
My problem is, that any file that is deleted on the samba server is synced
again from the ftp server a minute later. I use
rsync -rvt $FTPSRV /ftp_mirror/incoming
for syncing. The --delete option just doesn't fit here, because I want to
delete on the SENDING side, not on mine. Also, still-running uploads would
not be completely rsync'd if the file would be deleted while being
uploaded.
Imagine this happenings:

The ".synccreds" file has the credentials of an Active Directory Domain
Admin account, which has "Full Control" on both the NAS and the Netapp.
Here is the command that I run to do the rsync:
rsync -rvt --delete --progress /nas/ /netapp/
Running rsync with "-i" shows that the files are transferring because of
timestamp differences.
I tried the "-c" option in place of the "-t", but the server doing the
sync just hung there for literally two days without anything t...

...script that I'm running works - sort of - in that it syncs the
files; but it syncs their parent directories too, which I'm trying to avoid.
This is the command that I'm running now ($f is defined as the name of
the "files from" and the destination directory name).
rsync -rvt --delete --progress --files-from=/tmp/split/$f
"/backup/Music" /media/bill/35BF-4240/$f/ >> /tmp/rsync.txt
In short, this is the resultant file structure from the command above:

Samba as a PDC in a citrix environment
Hi all,
this is a long time since my last post to this list and I have got a small
question... (ofcource :)
I'm going to introduce citrix into our office (two citrix XPa servers which are
load balanced). According to the Citrix XPa docs it is not a good idea to use
one of this servers as a PDC/BDC, I can imagine that (we wouldn`t want to give
NT to much responsebilities).
so my question

[Bug 8615] New: feature request 'update by reference'
...it a 'update by reference' option.
What is it suppose to do?
Update(create) a target file by using a (server)local file that is similar to
the target being updated.
Scenario:
On a rsync server,
/Folder1/huge_file_1
On a rsync client,
/FolderLocal/huge_file_2
Commandline example:
rsync -rvt --inplace /FolderLocal/huge_file_2
root at 127.0.0.1::Folder1/huge_file_2 --byref Folder1/huge_file_1
The file 'huge_file_2' will be created on the Server as '/Folder1/huge_file_2'
but the actual Delta is taken from the difference between
'/FolderLocal/huge_file_2' and '...

directory mask = 2770
Hello everyone.
I am using Samba 2.0.7 on a RedHat 6.2 machine. I wanted to apply a
directory mask of 2770 to everything created in a share. The root
directory of this share already has these permissions. I want to have it
so that everything created in a certain directory has the permissions of
the group of the creator.
As it stands, I do have the directory mask = 2770 line in the smb.conf

Help with correct text file syntax EXCLUDE/INCLUDE + OPTION
Hi,
Linux-Ubuntu here. English is not my first language. The man rsync is
difficult to understand. I want to backup some folders recursively and
some files, see [1] in my /home dir to an external USB HD (Ext4). I want
to use a text file for the purpose.

permission issues
Here is the situation. I have setup a samba server to authenticate against
Active Directory. I have created a group under my Linux server and created
all the accounts that need to access the share and placed them in the Linux
group on the samba server. I gave
the group full rights to the samba share, but when a user from the group
adds to the samba share a
file or directory he or she now owns
