So what does everyone out there use to generate web statistics these days? Are the tried and true awstats or webalizer still the best out there? Ray

Any SELinux gurus around?
Hey all, I'm having some trouble getting PHP5 w/ CentOS 5 to connect to a remote MySQL server using the standard mysql_connect() call. Yes, MySQL libraries are installed along with php-mysql... The only way I can get it to work is to run setenforce Permissive, otherwise the connection fails. The annoying thing is that nothing at all shows up in my /var/log/messages file describing why

Intel 320 as ZIL?
Are any of you using the Intel 320 as ZIL? It''s MLC based, but I understand its wear and performance characteristics can be bumped up significantly by increasing the overprovisioning to 20% (dropping usable capacity to 80%). Anyone have experience with this? Ray

Unable to allocate dma memory for extra SGL
Hi all; We have a Solaris 10 U9 x86 instance running on Silicon Mechanics / SuperMicro hardware. Occasionally under high load (ZFS scrub for example), the box becomes non-responsive (it continues to respond to ping but nothing else works -- not even the local console). Our only solution is to hard reset after which everything comes up normally. Logs are showing the following: Jan 8

Tuning disk failure detection?
We recently had a disk fail on one of our whitebox (SuperMicro) ZFS arrays (Solaris 10 U9). The disk began throwing errors like this: May 5 04:33:44 dev-zfs4 scsi: [ID 243001 kern.warning] WARNING: /pci at 0,0/pci8086,3410 at 9/pci15d9,400 at 0 (mpt_sas0): May 5 04:33:44 dev-zfs4 mptsas_handle_event_sync: IOCStatus=0x8000, IOCLogInfo=0x31110610 And errors for the drive were

Identifying firmware version of SATA controller (LSI)
Trying to track down why our two Intel X-25E''s are spewing out Write/Retryable errors when being used as a ZIL (mirrored). The system is running a LSI1068E controller with LSISASx36 expander (box built by Silicon Mechanics). The drives are fairly new, and it seems odd that both of the pair would start showing errors at the same time.... I''m trying to figure out where I can

ZFS in front of MD3000i
We''re setting up ZFS in front of an MD3000i (and attached MD1000 expansion trays). The rule of thumb is to let ZFS manage all of the disks, so we wanted to expose each MD3000i spindle via a JBOD mode of some sort. Unfortunately, it doesn''t look like the MD3000i this (though this[1] post seems to reference an Enhanced JBOD mode....), so we decided to create a whole bunch of

Understanding UID/GID mapping models.
I am using either DOMAIN or ADS for authentication and am trying to understand how UID/GID mapping rules are triggered. This[1] seems to suggest that if I do not specify the idmap uid/gid parameters in smb.conf, then authenticated usernames are mapped to "local" user accounts having the same name. If, however, I _do_ specify idmap uid/gid then one of the idmap_* allocator modules is

Moving drives around...
Kind of a newbie question here -- or I haven''t been able to find great search terms for this... Does ZFS recognize zpool members based on drive serial number or some other unique, drive-associated ID? Or is it based off the drive''s location (c0t0d0, etc). I''m wondering because I have a zpool set up across a bunch of drives and I am planning to move those drives to

FC6 and winbind separator ignored?
I'm trying to join my FC6 box to our Active Directory domain. For the most part the setup was pretty straightforward, but it just doesn't seem like winbind separator is being honored. When I do a 'getent passwd' I get the following: AVWORLD\johnXXXX:*:16782801:16777216:XXXXXXXX:/home/AVWORLD/johnXXXX:/bin/bash

Good SLOG devices?
Hi I''m running OpenSolaris 148 on a few boxes, and newer boxes are getting installed as we speak. What would you suggest for a good SLOG device? It seems some new PCI-E-based ones are hitting the market, but will those require special drivers? Cost is obviously alsoo an issue here.... Multiple SLOG devices per pool
I have a pool with a single SLOG device rated at Y iops. If I add a second (non-mirrored) SLOG device also rated at Y iops will my zpool now theoretically be able to handle 2Y iops? Or close to that? Thanks, Ray

Moving rpool disks
We need to move the disks comprising our mirrored rpool on a Solaris 10 U9 x86_64 (not SPARC) system. We''ll be relocating both drives to a different controller in the same system (should go from c1* to c0*). We''re curious as to what the best way is to go about this? We''d love to be able to just relocate the disks and update the system BIOS to boot off the drives in

Kickstart + CentOS 5 = doesn't prompt for network information?
This may be more appropriate for an upstream list. That said... I'm doing kickstart setups of CentOS 5. My kickstart config includes a network configuration item. Depending on options passed at boot-time, the network config item may or may not include a --hostname option, but always specifies eth0. When I do a kickstart install, I notice that even though I am using 'interactive'

Hope this isn't a FAQ...
Trying to run guestfish against a VMDK file with a space in its name: $ guestfish --ro -i "New Virtual Machine-flat.vmdk" open /dev/kvm: No such file or directory Could not initialize KVM, will disable KVM support New: No such file or directory (Also tried with New\ Virtual\ Machine-flat.vmdk). Once I rename the vmdk file to something without spaces it loads up fine. Bug? If so I

Hard-set network via ifup scripts...
Anyone know off the top of their head the "right" way to hard set a link automatically to 100Mbps Full Duplex, etc using the ifup or ifcfg files? Don't see options in the scripts that might cover this, but maybe there's a more elegant way to do it than to do something in rc.local or hack up the ifup files myself... Ray

Samba server masquerading as another...
We're doing a test deployment of a Samba 3.0.33 server (RHEL 5.4) which is slated to replace two existing file servers -- one running Windows 2003 (known as qalab_server) and another running Samba (known as qalinux). We've brought the new server up and are trying to test client access to it to both DNS names by overriding the hosts files on certain clients.

Tracking down rogue workgroup
Hi folks. Periodically a workgroup shows up on our network with an inappropriate name. We're trying to find the best way to track this down as it's quite intermittent. We can obviously look for announcement messages (in broadcast packets on ports 138/139), but this must be done on each subnet and we have enough subnets that this would be rather tedious and at best, a last resort. The

4.4 i386 Server CD actually 64-bit?
Just downloaded the CentOS 4.4 i386 Server CD. The md5sum on the file matches: My file: 8ccb89265b16ca551bd04a15b3cf59a1 (CentOS-4.4.ServerCD-i386.iso) md5sum.servercd: 8ccb89265b16ca551bd04a15b3cf59a1 (CentOS-4.4.ServerCD-i386.iso) However, when I boot up with the CD on a Compaq Armada E500 laptop (Pentium III), the following message pops up: "Your CPU does not support long
