scp hardwires location to ssh?
...s? can the scp binary just refer to "ssh" and assume it's in the user's path? or can i do something in the build process (of ssh, not the package) to make scp think that, eventually, the real ssh will be at a certain location? thanks for any ideas, -jon -- Jon Nathan jon at rupture.net http://www.rupture.net/~jon/

ssh dumps core in nis/nfs environment
...ng, and the parent sshd died, leaving a core file in /. they're running 2.5.2p2. i have a couple core files if anyone would like to look at them. is there anything i can do to prevent this in the future? it would be a pain to install ssh locally on each server. -jon -- Jon Nathan jon at rupture.net http://www.rupture.net/~jon/

password expiry/changing
...word aging on solaris 6. our current build of openssh 2.5.2p2 asks for the password 3 times, then disconnects the user without allowing him to log in or change it. if not, are there any workarounds (other than root resetting the user's password manually). thanks, -jon -- Jon Nathan jon at rupture.net http://www.rupture.net/~jon/

Maildir/mbox on a per-user basis
...cot can do either mbox or Maildir on a per-user basis: default_mail_env can be overridden in userdb for each user. This works with userdbs supporting the "mail" attribute (eg. passwd-file, SQL, LDAP). How exactly does one do this for passwd-file? Thanks, -Jon -- Jon Nathan jon at rupture.net

newbie question
Hello all, just managed to install dovecot as imap server on a Suse Linux box. Now running fine with mbox format. A question regarding maildir or mbox. The MDA (in my case sendmail, Mlocal = procmail) stores mbox format. Do have to modify the local mailer to store maildir format or does dovecot convert automatically from mbox when I tell dovecot to use maildir format? Thanks, for any hint.

Moving to Dovecot
Hi there, I'm currently running IMAP with Courier and POP3 with Solid-POP3d. I'd like to migrate IMAP and POP3 to both use Dovecot. All this works fine in testing, except for the fact that I have two types of users for legacy reasons. One type of user has a Maildir-style inbox at ~/Maildir/ The other type has a mbox-style inbox at ~/Mailbox Is it possible to make Dovecot look for

MetaData Update for FLAC and OPUS
Many Thanks for your answer. Actually quite a few 'ifs', 'maybes' or 'shoulds'... ;-) I have tried most of them (except liquidsoap). However, even the mentioned apps like RadioDJ or Mixxx do NOT support meta data changes via the encoder (they all use the admin interface)! And as you correctly pointed out: none of the reference encoders support this. Not even the FLAC, OGG

Mixing mbox and maildir
Hi there. I understood that in Dovecot 1.0 it should be possible to mix the usage of mbox and maildir mailboxes. I just downloaded, built, and am testing dovecot-stable-20050304. I'm a bit confused as to the terms of namespaces (haven't read that part of the RFC yet), but this does not seem related. Anyway, when I try specifying: default_mail_env = ~/mail/:INBOX=/var/mail/%u On

Ext3 filesystem aborting journal at random times (Maxtor 300GB disk)
Hi, Sorry if this is an old and fixed issue but I can't really seem to find a definitive explanation/fix to this in the mail lists. Ever since I upgraded to FC2 my server randomly decides that it can no longer access the disk and "aborts" the ext3 journal leaving it read-only as expected. I've seen the same errors on other mail list, explained away as disk or disk cable

Pool Size
I am not sure how pool size works or if it applies to the following situation: I would like a pool of 10 worker processes that basically all do the same thing (based on args i send). I would like to be able to pass args to the pool of workers and the next available one will handle it. If there happens to be 10 already processing, I would like the request to be queued until a worker is
