...Thoughts : It could be that samba isn't closing the socket properly. This fits, if the process is waiting for the socket to close, but it stays open (deadlocked condition?). Why this might be, I can only guess. I've proved that it works again on the same machine after killing off the runaways, so it does not appear to be an environment issue. Hello, I am running Samba 2.2.2 with acl-0.7.16 on RedHat 6.2 (2.2.19). The PDC is a Windows 2000 Server and the Samba server is a domain member using Winbind. Without any apparent cause one of the smbd child processes has started to badly leak memory (approx. 10Mb / minute) and possibly busy waiting, persistant across reboots.
