Dear James,
The distances are normalized between zero and 1, so in your case all of them
will be zero. You can check that...

offset in gam and spatial scale of variables
Hi,
We are analizing the relationship between the abundance of groupers in line
transects and some variables. We are using the quasipoisson distribution. Do
we need to include the length of the transects as an offset if they all have
the same length??
Also, can we include in the gam models variables that are measured at
different spatial scales? We have done an analysis to see what variables

compare observed and fitted GAM values
Hi,
I am comparing the observed and fitted values of my GAM model, which includes the explanatory variables: longitude, depth, ssh, year and month. When I compare observed and fitted values for longitude, depth and ssh it works. But when I try to do it for month and year (which are as factors in the GAM model) it doesn't work. My observed and fitted values are exactly the same.. How is that

Inf +1i vs 1+Inf*1i
Hi
If I have
a <- Inf + 1i
then
Re(a) is Inf, and Im(a) is 1, as expected.
But if
b <- 1 + Inf * 1i,
then
Im(b) = Inf , as expected, but Re(b) = NaN, which I didn't expect.
Why this asymmetry? How to define an object with Re(b)=1, Im(b)=Inf?

RJMCMC.
Dear R users,
I´m studying about Bayesian Statistics. In this context, please, anyone have
some basic script of RJMCMC (Reversible Jump Markov chain Monte Carlo) in R
or WinBUGS?
My aim is to learn how to implement this methodology.
Thanks a lot.

color code in loop for piecharts plotting
Hi,
I am using this loop
par(mfrow=c(3,3))
annos<-c(2001:2007,2009)
for (i in annos) {
t<-subset(masia,YEAR==i)
t$FAMILIA<-drop.levels(t$FAMILIA)
pie(table(t$FAMILIA),main=i)
}
To make piecharts of species composition among years (my data frame is
called "masia"). So I get 1 piechart of the families that we have found in
our survey each year. We don't have always

t-test problem
I have two pairs of related vectors
x1,y1
and
x2,y2
I wish to do a test for differences in means of x1 and y1, ditto x2 and y2.
I am getting odd results. I am not sure I am using 'pt' properly...
I have not included the raw vectors as they are long. I am interested if I
am using R properly...

R "sumo" package suggestion
r-help:
I have an R package suggestion. After spending
several hours the other day installing about a dozen
packages, I had an idea. In xemacs, there is a
"sumo" package which allows me to install a large
bundle of xemacs packages at one time (about a 120
modes including ESS). I think R should have a
similar bundle. It would be so much easier than
hunting/downloading/installing.
