worker threads written in rubyinline
Hey Ezra,
I asked this on ruby-talk, but probably you missed it.
I am already using Backgroundrb for several other stuff. But i am
curious, that how it will work with rubyinline? Ruby threads, should
handle it alright..theoretically(since backgroundrb uses ruby threads)
But, i would just ask opinions of Ezra on this. Because i feel, stuff
at my end needs some real optimization. These worker threads are damn
slow and i need to make them fast.
I have some computing inten...

Testing c code with rspec?
Hey all,
Has any one ever tested or try to test c code with rspec? I am using
system calls to my compiled c program and testing against the standard
output but I would like to get a lot more granular than this. I have
experimented with using RubyInline to test individual functions and that
works on functions that are not calling other c functions. I have some
other ideas on how to do this but they all seem around about ways... I
have never used RubyInline before nor have I integrated c or c++ with
Ruby before so I''m guessing there...

Kill my Thread
Following code, should kill the worker thread, if there is a error in
connecting to the database, right?
but in my case it doesn''t and goes on doing other stuff. Of course...there
are lots of work arounds for this, but how do i make sure that, the thread
is killed at that point of time.

Monit / mongel_cluster 0.2.2 / mongrel 1.0.1
Paul
Did you ever get to the bottom of this. I''m having a similar (though possibly different) problem with a Rails app failing occasionally and on just one mongrel instance, which from the trace and behaviour seems to be ImageSceince/RubyInline related.
See my post on Rails deployment group: http://groups.google.co.uk/group/rubyonrails-deployment/browse_thread/thread/8ffd04de15bfb7a4?hl=en
Thanks

Back to ruby2ruby?
...(btw, excellent work!).
I checkout last night the merb-trunk code and run the specs, found
that everything passes with 1 pending, but no errors or failures about
missing ruby2ruby.
There is a ticket (#274)[1] that discuss this, but I remember we
discussed this back in September about depending on RubyInline...
Also, the merb gem dependencies didn''t state it, nor the documentation
as ticket mention...
ry dahl wrote a proof of concept extracting the count parameters part
of ParseTree, what happened to that?
Anyway, excellent progress and great looking site (still a few issues

A Proposal To Magically Remove ''params''
I have a magical proposal for the anti-magic web framework.
Controller methods do not use arguments and yet expect arguments. This
is handled through this params hash because we don''t know in advance
what parameters a client could pass to Merb. But in almost every
instance, it is too much to know all the query parameters - one
doesn''t care if the user threw in an extraneous

FULLTEXT search in MySQL on rails
I tried adding a FULLTEXT search index to a table of mine in MySQL,
only to discover that the InnoDB table format doesn''t seem to support
this feature. Switching to the MyISAM table type seemed to work, but
I seem to have some recollection that ActiveRecord transactions aren''t
fully atomic on MyISAM tables. Is this true or am I just remembering
wrong? If so, does anyone have

I have a class in my /lib/ directory called tracker.rb
It''s function is to receive an array of URLs and then perform 4

Each of the 4 tasks gets it''s own thread.
the class is called from my controller like:

OT local version control?
Hi, all,
This isn''t about rspec, but this list has people whose opinions I respect.
So, I''m looking for a new version control system for my local development. I
was going to install subversion, but I''ve heard rumors of people using some
newer ones. Thoughts? I''d like to be able to run it either locally or on a
home server. If I run it off a home server, then
