...that it doesn't change anything in Linux generally? And yes, I did try googling - it handed me links to some quite confusing discussions on this matter. LANG, LC_ALL and LC_CTYPE environment variables mentioned in those do not seem to work (or I'm doing something wrong). At least LANG=ru_RU or LC_CTYPE=ru_RU didn't help but created some weird side-effects in the terminal instead. Thanks for any help.

.... I need sometimes to be able to write Russian and Hebrew. This works fine with native linux applications, but not in Wine applications. If I launch Wine application, I can write only in English, if I try to type in other language, my input is either ignored or displayed as blocks. If I set LANG to ru_RU.UTF-8 or to he_IL.UTF-8 before starting Wine application, then I can write either in English and Russian or English and Hebrew. Is there a way to enable all three languages?

Hi I'm trying to get Rosetta Stone software working under Wine, and actually it seems fine, apart from one thing: On the Russian language lessons, the font displayed is English-type, rather than Cyrillic. I'm trying to run a Russian application in Wine 0.9.59 on Ubuntu 8.04. It seems to be running fine, but all the text is gibberish. How do I get Russian Cyrillic font support in Wine? Is it as simple as installing some fonts? Where would I get them, and where would I put them?

I want the filenames are stored in utf8, can it be done? and for non unicode programs would be locale such as in my case win1251
