Need help to rsynch the directory structure only excluding the files from remote to local.
Hi Tim, I tried using the rsync like how you specified in your example and it worked fine. But when I tried it between my UNIX box and a remote server the command would just not complete and give any output whatsoever. This is how I did it: rsync -av --include '*/' --exclude '*' tashaikh@remotebox:/dw/etl/home/ prod/log/ /export/home/tashaikh/auto/log In the above I need to copy

2 errors when running rsync
...missions on the openssl side, as well as the ' send_files... ' part. The parts that concern me are (1) IO error encountered - skipping .... and (2) rsync error: partial transfer (code 23) at main.c(925) Leaving the --delete part off leaves me with the same output, minus (1). However, the rsynch process * is * working. Any ideas? System: FreeBSD 4.6-STABLE rsync version rsync-2.5.5_1 Michael

Rsync behaviour on harddisc crash
I was just pondering: Lets look at Server A with one extra harddisc hdb, where hdb1 is mounted at /mnt/folder. /mnt/folder is the folder which should be mirrored on Server B. So Server B rsyncs rsynch -a -delete server::folder /folder from Server A and gets all the new files and deletes all the files, which doesn't exist on Server A's /mnt/folder anymore. What would happen, if the harddisc hdb would fail? Will this happen?: harddisc hdb failes hdb1 is not automatically mounte...

Problem with rsync recent file logic ?
Hello, I have 2 servers I'm synchronizing using rsync, I have a situation where I : 1. rsync from rnd-dev2 to rnd-dev1 2. change the rsynched file on rnd-dev1 3. rsync from rnd-dev2 to rnd-dev1 again 4. File gets overridden on rnd-dev1 over though it has newer change time then file on rnd-dev2. here is the bug(?) reproduction: [root@rnd-dev1 test_rsync]# rsync --version rsync version 2.6.3 protocol version 28 Copyright (C) 1996-20...

Backup FAQ: PLEEZE include in FAQ?
...s not a total waste, I'll mention that cpio can be your friend if you worry about device nodes, etc. It has many features, is well respected, is "mature", ... However it is not a backup *system*, but a good all-around tool for "roll your own" folks who aren't happy with rsynch for whatever reason. It supports tar formats, has check summing, ... Now, please. Anyone with backup Q's, check the archives first, get a preliminary feel for which way you lean and then query the list for *new* insights, opinions, recommendations, etc. after you spew a few words about the fee...

rsync hangs in read_int (generator.c line 498)
Hello I'm having a heck of a time rsync'ing (is that the proper conjugation? :)) between two Cygwin machines. I have three directory trees that are "exposed" via rsynch. Two of the three have a very shallow structure, and they work fine. The third, however, has a fairly deep structure and many more files than the other two, and rsync'ing this directory causes a hang on the client side. Firing up gdb, I get: (gdb) list 486 phase++; 487...

Expressions in --exclude-from file
...le, files like 2005-04-03_19:00_KCBS_60_Minutes.txt still get included. I then try rsync -rutvn --exclude=$(date +%F) --exclude=$(date --date="-1 day" +%F) --exclude-from=/ssa/TV/scripts/nosync --remove-sent-files /ssa/TV/2005/ /tv1/2005/ which works, but the strings are long and rsynch appears not to allow \ to break a long line (?) Wouldn't it be useful to allow expressions in the exclude file? David

Kickstart with all the latest updates?
Currently, I kickstart my machines over http to install CentOS 4.4 and then in a script called from %post do a "yum -y update" to install all the latest updates. Is there a way to set up the kickstart server so that I can do this all in one step? In other words, is there a "supported" way to roll in all the updates into the kickstart server? In case it matters, I

local yum repository
bit off topic, but.... I've set up my first Centos gateway server and now setting up another server on internal network. I thought it would be nice to use the gateway servers "/var/cache/yum" as a local repository for any internal servers since it would be up to date with the lastest packages and save bandwidth. So... I created a sym link to create a repository through gateways

Info on UK ISDN30e?
Hi :) My employer is looking to move a call centre to a new office, and has been increasingly frustrated with their legacy PBX (call-logging licensing and hardware upgrade costs). So I've stepped forth as the Open Source Pedant and suggested Asterisk so we can do all our own CallerID / call logging / analyses, and make use of IP Phones / teleworking, etc. The problem begins in that I only

Possible memory leak problem...
I''m trying to figure out a possible memory leak problem I have in my application. I''ve tested both with mongrel and webrick and the problem remains. So I think it''s not a mongrel problem, but I''m posting here to see if anybody can help me. The RAILS application is quite simple, no special plugins ( no RMagick that has the memory problem ),
