zvol (slow) vs file (fast) performance snv_130
Hello, I was doing performance testing, validating zvol performance in particularly, and found that zvol write performance to be slow ~35-44MB/s at 1MB blocksize writes. I then tested the underlying zfs file system with the same test and got 121MB/s. Is there any way to fix this? I really would like to have compatible performance between the zfs filesystem and the zfs zvols. # first test is a

OT: iscsi target bind to two addresses?
Does anyone know off hand how to bind iscsi enterprise target to two distinct addresses. Lets say I have a machine that has a bunch of interfaces on it, with different subnets. Rather than have ietd broadcast itself on all interfaces (the default), I would like to limit it to only two interfaces. I have edited the init.d startup script with --address x.x.x.x which works, but I tried using the

XFS-filesystem corrupted by defragmentation Was: Performance problems with XFS on Centos 5.4
Before I'd try to defragment my whole filesystem (see attached mail for whole story) I figured "Let's try it on some file". So I did > xfs_bmap /raid/Temp/someDiskimage.iso [output shows 101 extents and 1 hole] Then I defragmented the file > xfs_fsr /raid/Temp/someDiskimage.iso extents before:101 after:3 DONE > xfs_bmap /raid/Temp/someDiskimage.iso [output shows 3

Doing ZFS rollback with preserving later created clones/snapshot?
Hi. Is it possible on Solaris 10 5/09, to rollback to a ZFS snapshot, WITHOUT destroying later created clones or snapshots? Example: --($ ~)-- sudo zfs snapshot rpool/ROOT at 01 --($ ~)-- sudo zfs snapshot rpool/ROOT at 02 --($ ~)-- sudo zfs clone rpool/ROOT at 02 rpool/ROOT-02 --($ ~)-- LC_ALL=C sudo zfs rollback rpool/ROOT at 01 cannot rollback to ''rpool/ROOT at 01'': more

40TB File System Recommendations
Hello All I have a brand spanking new 40TB Hardware Raid6 array to play around with. I am looking for recommendations for which filesystem to use. I am trying not to break this up into multiple file systems as we are going to use it for backups. Other factors is performance and reliability. CentOS 5.6 array is /dev/sdb So here is what I have tried so far reiserfs is limited to 16TB ext4

Homegrown Hybrid Storage
Hi, I''m looking to build a virtualized web hosting server environment accessing files on a hybrid storage SAN. I was looking at using the Sun X-Fire x4540 with the following configuration: - 6 RAID-Z vdevs with one hot spare each (all 500GB 7200RPM SATA drives) - 2 Intel X-25 32GB SSD''s as a mirrored ZIL - 4 Intel X-25 64GB SSD''s as the L2ARC. -

FYI: Why is NFS slower on EL5 than EL4?
For those who have wondered why NFS on EL5 is slower than on EL4 I provide these links for your edification. http://kbase.redhat.com/faq/docs/DOC-15355 http://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=448130 Problem is kernel threads cannot create or assign an io context as there is no api in the kernel available to do so, so each is given a different context and there is an 8ms latency between

ZFS with Equallogic storage
I''m planning on setting up an NFS server for our ESXi hosts and plan on using a virtualized Solaris or Nexenta host to serve ZFS over NFS. The storage I have available is provided by Equallogic boxes over 10Gbe iSCSI. I am trying to figure out the best way to provide both performance and resiliency given the Equallogic provides the redundancy. Since I am hoping to provide a 2TB
