Hi, Think I've found either a documentation bug, in rsync (or possibly a code bug), with the include/exclude feature. This occurs on (at least) 2.5.5 and 2.5.6 First I created a file list of files that I wanted backed up [root@poppy root]# cat /tmp/sendmail-rpmverify-out /etc/ /etc/aliases /etc/mail/ /etc/mail/helpfile /etc/mail/local-host-names /etc/mail/sendmail.mc /etc/mail/statistics /etc/mail/trusted-users /etc/mail/virtusertable /etc/sendmail.cf /etc/sysconfig/sendmail 2. ...a CentOS 4 box and w appears to have stopped working -- this machine has 3 or 4 people connected via ssh, yet this is all that is outputted: # w 20:46:32 up 301 days, 3:21, 0 users, load average: 0.02, 0.03, 0.04 USER TTY FROM LOGIN@ IDLE JCPU PCPU WHAT "rpmverify procps" returns nothing so the package hasn't been messed with. ...700 lines of hex code additional in the modified file. Then I set a cron to check and do md5sum on all system files and after half an hour, I go a report back. Files modified. This time when checked the hex dump of newly and earlier modified files, they were the same. Exact same! Because rpm and rpmverify also seemed to have been modified so I cannot trust 'rpm -V' package verification. Already did lsof and process tracing but to no avail.
